Good Luck. Had you called back and spken to someone else, they might have been more helpful. I have found that to be true many times. If you don't like the answer you get from one person, call back and talk to someone else. Some people just like to ruin other peoples' days. |
You can save on weight getting the lightest soft carrier available. I had to secure it over and above the zippers and velcro, because Maxwell (aka, Houdini) escapes otherwise. Good luck with your trip. |
When I went to pick up Sophia in Chicago i booked the flight ahead of time and reserved her spot, i traveled Jetblue and they allow 4 dogs per plane. Sophia was the only dog tho i believe. Anyway the only time i had to take her out was to go thru security. They didn't even ask for her ticket or anything. After that to get on the plane, no one asked for her ticket, or if i even had a dog in there. No one even knew. I did have her ticket with me but it was completely useless. They also didn't even weigh her and the carrier, even though the carrier i had was a very light soft sided carrier from petco. They didn't even measure it or anything. I think traveling with 2 dogs would be fine but just let the airlines know. I plan to travel with both girls in the future as i like to travel a lot and visit family around the world. My advise tho is to def. have something reccomended by a vet to calm them down, like calm moments tablets or something! Sophia was so nervous and although she wasn't making any noise or anything she was shaking a lot! The worst was during take off and landing that i had to take her out to comfort her and no one said anything to me. It was hell to put her back in the carrier tho, she was scratching at me, poor thing. I even tried to give her treats and she didn't want anything, so next time i will take something for her. Also if the person next to you is not a dog person that sucks. The lady next to me didn't say anything but she kept looking at her like she had never seen a dog before! |
Hey Mizz, just be careful cuz its sooooo NOT easy to get 2 dogs on a plane with only one human! :) Thats where Im hitting all this trouble! Heck Im thinking about trying to find someone and pay them to walk one of the dogs onto the plane for me! HAHA (kidding) I put my boys on the scale yesterday, I seriously think my scale is broken! One weighs 9lbs and the other 6.5lbs??? Back in December when they were 1 year 4 months old, they were 4.2lbs and 6.2lbs! I don't know how or when or why they gained sooo much weight being older than that! So I think my scale is broken, seriously! (they are 2 years old now) They are skinny though! Anyways, so my point is, I really hope I get lucky like you and they do not weigh them! Cuz its 15lbs max and they are right now 15.5lbs and no carrier yet! YIKES!!! |

yeah my boys are full grown now and I am hoping that when I take them in for their health check that the vets scale will give a more accurate (and lower) weight! haha Now I just need to find a carrier big enough for them both, but small enough for carry on. UGH... this is not easy! Northwest allows 2 dogs if they are siblings under 6 months also. My boys are siblings (litermates) and never have been seperated since birth.... but they are over 6 months! I have NO idea why age factors into this! :( |

ohyeah! someone (maybe you) showed that one on another thread, I think yorkie products or something and I asked if they bought it to let me know what they think and if it could comfortably fit 2 dogs (remember they are 15lbs together) and if its durable and lightweight! If you do buy it, let me know! I love it!!! :) Thanks girl!!! |

4 Attachment(s) K here are the pics! The sides have 2 windows and leather so you can close over them but they can still breath, i guess if you are trying to sneak somewhere. I tried to show how high it is, if i stretch it, it goes over their heads. |
4 Attachment(s) There you go. My girls were looking scruffy, that was before their baths lol I'm not sure if your boys will both fit in it comfortable, i don't know how big they are but i know that Teddy, he's 8 lbs and he hates carriers, but even if i put him in it with just one of the girls he won't be comfortable. But for just him alone it is good. |
yeah my fletch is about 8.5lbs and my dex is about 5lbs... so it would be a tight squeeze I guess.... what do you think? It looks like a REALLY nice carrier though! I really like it!!! Thanks for all the pics!!! Your dogs are just adorable!!! :) :) |

hhmm thats what Im wondering! Im going to have to go to a pet store and try some bags out! Its gotta be a soft bag though! cuz a hard one would make the combined weight too much! :) thanks girl! I appreciate the advice! |
It is either Midwest or Northwest that you are allowed to take two dogs with you. I had to fly with 2 dogs, one is a yorkie and one is a pitbull last year when I went home to WI for Christmas. One dog can fly on the plane with you under the seat and the orher dog had to fly in cargo, but they do allow you to take 2 pets. |
Frustrating I agree that this is frustrating. The high fees that the airlines charge to put your pet under the seat is frustrating also. We have decided not to take our pets to Wisconsin next week when we go because I can't guarantee that I can get both home with my husband when I fly to another state for a few days. Your only options are to find a person who is flying to the same destination on the same day and is willing to help, take only one with you, leave them both at home, or drive. None of these are very good options. I have also found that while some airline employees are pet friendly, there are many who are not, and some even interpret the FAA rules differently than the they are written. Good luck. |
Pet Travel bags We have tried a variety of pet travel bags for use on airlines. We now use the ones that you pull behind you that are on wheels. The dogs seem to feel more secure in thoses, and they fit very nicely under the seat. Our Yorkies are small enough to fit in one together with room to spare, but the airlines require that they be in separate containers. Hotels are getting wise to the demand for people to travel with their pets, but I don't understand why the airlines make travel so difficult. |

Yeah I don't understand whats up with the age restriction. I can SEE a weight restriction, but AGE? Who cares if they are 6 months or 5 years? As long as they are under 15lbs and fit in the same carrier? Thats my take on it. I was told by a bunch of people that I wouldnt have a problem taking them both as long as I disclose that I am brining 2 dogs with me and pay the $$. So I booked it. My dogs weighed about 13lbs together, but the other day I weighed them and they are 15lbs together. That is the weight limit including a carrier. I think my dogs are a BIT chubby. I put them on royal canin dog food and free feed them, so I need to stop doing that bc they have both gained OVER a lb in the last month and a half. Anyways, northwest airlines lets you take 2 dogs in the plane with you if they are under 15lbs .. but it is your only carryon. I just bought a big purse to take bc you can technically have 2 carryons if one is a bag and the other a purse or laptop case or briefcase or something like that. So I booked my dogs and told the airline they were under 6 months, I need to get a health certificate, but I guess the airline does not care about those, its more the state you are traveling to that does so you get in case. That will have their age on it, but I was told the airline more than likely won't check your bags weight or look at the health certs. As long as you paid the fee. I also bought myself a refundable ticket in case they turn me away I can get the money back for my flight to be cancelled. I am just hoping and praying at this point that everything just goes smoothly. I'll let you know when I get back but Im not going until Dec - Jan. Good Luck! |
Sneaking dogs on board-- consider a private home boarder instead I just read posts in this thread and am a bit surprised that in this day you would consider sneaking anything on a plane-- no less live animals. We traveled to Chicago with our cat a few years ago-- long before 911-- and they made me take the cat out of the crate. I was so afraid to do it because he was a very nasty cat and we had to sedate him for the trip, but. I didnt know if it would really have any effect on him. The security person took him herself and checked his belly-- I had visions of claws, scratches, blood and a wild cat loose in the airport. A trick of drug trafficers is to operate and fill the abdomen cavity with drugs. All went well, but my heart was bounding. Post 911, I would not dream of trying to take anything on board that I was not allowed. Also, consider what you would do if they did discover your extra dog -- coming or going-- how would you travel? I recommend finding someone like me-- who has a private home boarding business. I have two little yorkies myself and would never consider putting them in a kennel, I board them with a lady who does provate home boarding. Interview and visit a home boarder long before you travel. You could even leave your dogs overnight a time or two as a test run. Take a look at my website to see the kind of things you should look for-- http://www.doggienanny.com You can find private home boarders through your vet. They usually have a list on hand. We home boarders love dogs and spend lots of time with them. I think some of them get much more attention with me than they get in their own homes! One thing to consider is the size of dogs a home boarder caters to. Good luck.:aimeeyork :aimeeyork Linda the doggie nanny |

here is a link to information with flying with pets with different airlines. http://www.petflight.com/airlines/carry-on I hope this helps. Good luck. |
I hope all works out for you, I think you best bey is american Airlines I also have two yorkies and never had a problem with AA. I did have to carry them through security, mine weigh 3lbs and mom is 4lbs. Just be honest and don't try and sneak them in because that will proably backfire. Good luck |
Well tomorrow is my trip! Keep me and my pups in your prayers! :) Im excited and nervous to travel with them, esp this time of year! so many thoughts racing through my head! Im sure all will be fine and by this time tomorrow I'll be boarding the plane no problems! :) The time FLEW by!!!! |
Since I just got back from my first plane trip with Teddi I thought I would let everyone know that I booked her flight ahead of time but you can't pay until you get to the airport and I went to the counter and told them I had a dog and paid. They did not weigh anything...they did not even look in the bag. When you go through security you have to take them out but they don't car about anything either. On the plane I don't think anyone even knew she was with me. I kept her in her carrier under the seat the whole time on all 4 planes but they didn't even look at her ticket or anything (although I would have been stressed out if I didn't buy a ticket). I did not get a health certificate but I did bring her shot records but no one asked for anything. I flew US Airways. I have heard that sometimes United lets you take them out of the carrier. And for those of you that are worried about your dog making noise when flying, I was worried about that too but she only made a few little noises while we were sitting there but once we too off she was completely quiet. I think it is actually calming to her, like riding in the car, and she just fell right to sleep. |
