I want to fly from Tampa, FL. to MN. That is a three hour flight, by the time you leave home and get to the destination, it would be at least 6 hours. How can they go potty?

You'll have to put wee wee pads in the carrier, and change them if you need to.

I was wondering too... If you have a smaller dog, say a YORKIE! if you can take the airline approved carrier with your dog as a carryon... I've heard that there is 1 or 2 airlines that allow this IF your dog is quiet...

Anyone? I would hate to have him shoved somewhere separate from us... we worry too much... I'd rather drive

Bella flys with me when I fly from Germany to South Dakota. Between flight time and connections, etc it is at least 12 hours before we are to our destination. Bella does great on the trips. Make sure they are used to their carrier and put a pee pad on the bottom of it. Do not feed them or give them water for a couple hours before the flight. Have them go right before you get on the plane and if you have to you can bring your pup to the bathroom on the plane and put a pee pad down there for it to go. Bella flys with me in the plane and never below as cargo. Depending on the airline there is usually 1-2 pets allowed per flight in cabin. You must reserve space for your dog when you get your tickets. As long as if they are reserved and the carrier can fit under the seat in front of you it should be just fine. You can look online to see what the different regulations are for each airline online. You must also have a health certificate and rabies certificate before you can bring them. I also give Bella some benadryl 30 minutes before the flight to help make her sleepy and more calm. My vet recommended this and it works really well for her. Hope this helps!

I was able to take Bella out of her carrier and hold her on my lap for one flight because the flight attendant didn't care and kept coming over to pet her. Other times I just snuck her out and held her under a blanket so she was close to me. No one noticed so it worked well. Even if they catch you with your pup out and holding her, the only thing they can do is tell you to put it back in the carrier. I would bring some nutrical along with you just in case he needs it. Most airports have a "family restroom" which is one large room with a toilet and sink. I use that when I travel with dogs. I go in lock the door get the dog(s) out of the carrier and put a pee pad down on the floor. I then use the facilities without worry about the dogs getting loose. This is better than the designated dog potty area, because it is usually in the secure area and there is not cigarette butts all over! Your dog needs to be used to going on a pee pad though.

What airline do you fly from Germany to the US? Is there an age limit on the dog going into Germany? I read some place that the dog needs to be younger than 3 years, which seemed odd to me.

I just flew here to Florida with Kalina (Friday). I took her on with me. OMG the people at the airport made such a fuss over her. One girl wanted to "take her to show a co-worker" but I told her no. That worried me too much.

I bought pamper type doggie diapers from Petedge, disposable. I put her in one of those right before I left for the airport. I also put her little Go-fetch PJs on over the diaper because it gets cold under the seats. That worked perfectly for me. She didn't pee in the diaper and had it on for approx. 6 hrs. I stopped at the first place I could after leaving the airport and she peed there. The diaper and PJs worked perfectly.

Hi, we flew from Germany to the states on United and while in the states on United. When we flew back home to Germany we flew on Lufthansa. There is no age limit that I have ever heard of, so you should be fine. As long as the vet gives you a health certificate and rabies certificate then you should be fine. All the health certificate is for is stating that when the vet seen the dog it was healthy and able to make a flight within the 7-10 days from the date of the certificate. I didn't see Lufthansa on that list, but they also allow small dogs to travel as carry-on :)
