Flying to Mexico Hi all:wavey: We are taking Lucy on vacation with us to Ixtapa at the end of July. I have contacted Delta to secure her place (they limit cabins to 2 pets) and they charge a fee (totally worth it). I've done all my homework regarding shot records and health certificates so I'm all set in that area. Since I just got her I haven't gotten her a travel carrier yet. I love all the Juicy, Designer, etc. carriers but I was thinking (at least for airplane travel) that maybe a Sherpa carrier would be better since it is so much more vented...Thoughts/Opinions? Have a great weekend! |
Since I am doing a major trip next week I have looked at so many bags and so many of them aren't vented enough for airline travel. |

I love my Celltei - have you looked at those? I wonder if the water in Mexico affects dogs the same way as humans? |
1 Attachment(s) I would agree that the celltei's are great carriers. I do not have one, but I'm sure at some point in the future I will...hehe. I do have a Sherpa, and I'm PRETTY sure it's what I'll be taking Kobi to MN with next week. It's pretty big (almost too much so) but at least he'll have room. I'll let you know next week how it goes. How does that sound? Mine is just a relatively cheap one (liek $60) from Petsmart....I'm attaching the pic of it but mine is black and white coloring. Anyway, good luck, and I would say Celltei or Sherpa for sure. |
Thanks all for the suggestions! I did go ahead and order the "Delta" Sherpa for this trip as we are flying Delta... Regarding the water in Mexico, I will be using bottled water for her :) |
I am traveling with Rocky next week although we are only going to North Carolina and we live in NYC i have bought him this carrier. It is a little higher than what Jet Blue's requirments are but it has this piece inside that i can snap off and squish the carrier a little bit down and it wont collapse on him. It looks sturdy, well constructed and it was only $79 well after shipping and taxes came out to like $95 which is still not bad so check it out. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82393 |
That one looks great! Thanks for sharing :) Question - How many sides is it vented on? |

I travel to Mexico all the time to surf. I've never had a problem with the water but since I'm sure Lucy's going to be out of sorts from this being her first trip I'm going to use bottled water that they have at the surf hotel. Three more weeks and Lucy will be an International traveler!:animal37 |
Hi, I am a flight attendant for a major airline. I also travelled extensively with my first yorkie, Molly Muffins (RIP) many, many times. I would recommend the Sherpa travel bag. It is approved on all airlines, it is pliable enough to stow under the seats, well-vented, and has a couple of storage pockets where we would put bowls, food, water, towel, etc... It is also non-descript. You sort of want a bag that blends in with the rest of the luggage so as not to draw attention to yourselves. It also is easy to carry or just put on top of a rollaboard type suitcase. We have vacationed in Mexico many times, but not with our dog yet. However, we noticed may people who do and from what we gathered, it seems to go just fine. We hope to take our new girl Nina along in the future. Buena Suerte! |
