What Stuff Do You Take When Traveling By Car We're going on the road and we will be in one place for about 2 weeks. What would you take with you without looking ridiculous while unpacking the car.:D I feel I need an X-pen and a small crate in case my two aren't getting along, car seat, grooming stuff, outfits, blankets, toys, and a carrier when I can't leave them at he house or the car and food of course. I'm I crazy? What do you folks pack? I'm curious. |
I only have one and only took her on a 3 day road trip. I took her harness, collar and lead, an extra harness and lead, pee pads, food and water dishes, food (canned and dry), treats, toys, chews, and clothes, and doggles. I just put it all in a zip up tote bag. I used most everything I brought. Just make a note of each thing that you ( or your yorkie) uses for a few days, that should cover it. If you are staying at someone's home or at a hotel, you can keep your baby in a kitchen or bathroom and block the entryway with a suitcase and empty waste cans. That is what I did and it worked great. About the only thing I did not bring but thought I could have was doggy steps. Gracie did fine jumping on the sofa in the hotel, but the bed was way too high for her. |
I take harness, leash, beds (yes, bedS), toys, blanket, towel, clothes, food, water, chew stuff, lots of stuff! |
Oh, I forgot to mention carpet cleaner, some cleaning rags, paper towels and poop bags. |
LOL Well it seems I've forgotten a few things. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels they need all their stuff. Would love to hear from some more YT'ers. I know we're not the only ones:D. |

LOL-I always joke that they have more luggage than I do...It's probably true  You got a good list there! Mine is large too....lets see- Usually 2 different carriers, bed, blankets, xpen (sometimes 2), peepads and pishpads, papertowels/cleaner, ice chest with their cooked food in it, leashes and harnesses, grooming supplies, "outfits", toys, bully sticks to keep em busy along with their favorite treats, car seat is in the car and now I have a stroller I get to bring along too  Oh yes, poopy bags and bottled water too |
Bella and I travel 2 hours to my parents house each week...or the hour and half trek to my boyfriends; it's a toss up. I will take their whole drawer (a wide kitchen drawer with their medicines, t-shirts, kongs, etc.), their food, hair stuff, shampoo just in case, 2 crates, 1 carseat (sam will sit on laps in the car, normally she is in her seat but I am NOT listening to whining for that long! Loki loves his seat), beds and beds for crates, blankets, bowls, leashes, carrier bags, toys.... I love that when I go to my parent's cabin my mom has towels, sheets, a hair dryer, shampoo... So I'll just pack clothes. These guys will have a suitcase bigger than mine. |
In addition to the list above- I make a photocopy of my guys vet records in case of emergency. You never know if you can get hold of your vet. I keep them in a ziplock bag. |
If you take everything mentioned in this post your going to need a small U-Haul. :lol tears :lol tears :lol tears |
By Car When I travel with my dogs-I have a SUV and have a small playpen in the back. I Put a blanket and their pillow beds in it. They don't whine like when they are in a carrier. The playpen is small enough that I can pack my luggage around it. I usually put my folding yard pen on top of my car so when I stop some where I can let them run and not worry about them running off or getting loose from their leash. |
Mine don't eat right away when in stange place either. Sometimes at all the first day. Quote:

Don't leave home without a CURRENT photo of your furbaby just in case the unthinkable happens and your baby was to get lost. Also if they are microchipped be sure and take the microchip numbers with you. Sonya |
I just went on an overnight trip down to southern california and my hubby and I had one little overnight bag...Kiwi seriously had like three bags of stuff! My hubby was laughing so hard when we were unpacking the car that he almost fell over! But I always take my AAA guide to traveling with your pet and it lists dog parks and dog friendly hotels for all over the US. Also, Kiwi's vet does a free laminated ID card that has a picture of her, all her vaccinations that she has had, any special medical needs, her microchip number, and the contact info for the vet. I always carry that in my wallet just in case! It is so cute it looks like a little driver's license! |
Don't forget to take your Vets phone #, But the most important thing not to forget is your furbaby. |
One more important thing... If we are going to be near water, we take their life jackets! If we go out kayaking, they will need those. |
