2 hour layover I am flying to Ontario, CA to pick up my 15wk old baby. On the way home we have a 2 hour layover in SF. My question is...where do you take them potty?? Do you just take a pee pad in the bathroom?? HHmmmm I'm at a loss. I flew out of there a few weeks ago and looked around and saw nothin'!! Any suggestions?? |
I would keep a potty pad in the bottom of the carrier. Baby might go in the restroom on a pee pad, but also might be too distracted. You could call the airport ahead of time and ask if there is some place for this purpose? i would ask whoever has baby on the other end to really limit fluids for 4 hours or so before the flight, so maybe baby can hold it. Also ask for a potty pad that has been used once. That might help with using it at the airport. |
I just flew with my new baby last week from Birmingham to Phoenix and had a lay over in Atlanta. Total flight time including lay over was about 5.5 hours. When I got to Atlanta I just brought her pee pad in the rest room and scoped out the furthest from every thing and every one corner there was and luckily she did relieve herself. |
Some airports has a doggie area, I know LAX has an area outside for dogs to stretch their legs and relieve themselves. Check with the airport you will have your layover at. And have a safe flight! |
We fly often with Toto and since she is older now she will hold it for hours on end!! I always give her opportunities to go on her pad, but she simply refuses. I was fortunate that a lady at the desk [at our gate] once showed me a "private" unmarked bathroom and suggested I take her in there. I did and she peed and pooped on her pad. It was wonderful ... not a single distraction! She is such a little prissy thing, if there is a single distraction, she simply is not going! :p Good luck! |
I picked up some dogs in Denver. I checked out the doggie area before I went to cargo to get them (I flew in from KC). The doggie area was all dirt and cigarette butts. No way was I taking my dogs there. I tried the bathroom using the stall against the wall. It worked pretty good. Coming home from California from a show I discovered something else. The Denver airport again (layover this time) has a "family" bathroom between the mens' and womens' bathrooms. It is just a large room with a changing area and of course the toilet and sink. I went in there and put pee pads down and also water (bottled that I had to buy from the airport) and food. This bathroom was aready in the secure area, so I did not have to go through security again. You might ask if your layover airport has this type of facility. It was great! |
I forgot to mention that in the regular bathroom I had harnesses and leashes on the girls. I also put their carrier under the dog to lessen their escape routes. I know the floor is flithy, but I was more concerned about the safety of my two adult girls that had just flown in from Germany and did not know me from Adam. Of course I had them potty in the cargo area too before coming back to the airport, but it was really muddy that day. They had aready held it for 14 hours and I wanted to give them all possible chances to eliminate all they had to hold for those hours. |
Thanks for all of you suggestions. I'm going to call the airport and see what they have. It's hard to know with a new baby what their habits are. I guess if these little guys can fly from Germany and be OK, a 2 hour layover is nothing!! |
