Who else is using a harness for car rides? I tried different carrier-type beds for Pepper. he hated them all alike, squealing and screaming no matter the praise or the length of ride. And I came across a harness that you clip onto a seatbelt - it's a little thicker and lined with sherpa in front in case of a sudden pull. It kind of looks like a harness for the seeing-eye dogs... And all Pepper does now is lie down or go to sleep! I'm still amazed how well he behaves on car rides. Just wanted to see if anyone uses it too? |
I have the same one for Winnie...she doesn't like it though. She stands the entire trip and refuses to relax. I want to try one of the bed-type ones but I'm not sure if it will be any better...she really just wants to climb into my lap and give me kisses. Silly pup. |
That's exactally what I use for Buddy. He stands at the beginning to see what direction I am headed then eventually he lays down. He never is really relaxed in the car as much as he likes riding in it. He usually hugs my right arm when we are driving but if I have to put the breaks on he won't go flying. He's too large for a carrier so this works great for us. |
Mojo has one of the console carseats and we attach the clip to his harness or D-ring on his clothing. He loves it! It is big enough that he can cuddle w/ his blanket and a toy and lay down....all the while, being close to me! Plus, he can see out the windows, securely. Mojo doesn't always lay down on trips...he likes to know where we are and where we are going. If he does lay down, if he hears the blinker or we come to a stop....he is up and ready to get out! Silly guy! |
Mine have car seats that have seat belts that attach to their harnesses. They just lay down and go to sleep too! |
We have a Look Out carseat with the piece that attaches to the seatbelt. Mia usually stands to lookout the window, but she does lay down once in awhile - but we haven't been on a long trip either... :p |
I bought one of the harnesses that snaps into the car seat buckle. But the pups don't want to be by themselves on the seat. |
Gracie hates her car seat. She always has her harness and lead on when we are in the car. For short trips, she just rides in the passenger seat next to me. She used to like to ride on the jockey box, but one day I slammed on the breaks and she ended up in the back seat. That was the end of her jockey days. Anyway, for long rides I have a loop that the seat belt goes through, and on the end is a thingy to attach it to her harness, just like a leash. It gives her no room to move so she is pretty much forced to sit or lay down in the seat when she gets tired of standing. At least I know she won't go flying if I have to hit the breaks hard. |
We tried that harness originally but even the smallest size doesn't fit on my girls skinny shoulders!!! Snoozer seats all the way for us. The girls give them   !!!! |
Tetley hates the car no matter where I put him. Starts whining the second we get near the car - I don't know why he has such a negative attachment with car rides. I try to take him out several times a week on errands to get him used to it but he still hates it. We use the Outward Hound car seat now which attaches to his harness and he can see out the window. He tries to hang himself in it by twisting around. I'm wondering if one of these belt clip types would be better for him? |

I'm working on getting Bella a carseat and attaching her harness to it. I bought a harness for my lab that hooks to the seatbelt and it just so doesn't work. Bridget gets herself tangled up everytime and I'm worried she's going to break her leg so I unhook her. I think I'm going to hook her D ring on the harness to the tether in the back of my car (normally for carseats) just to keep her somewhat in place but giving her some room to move. |
I have a harness that goes attached to the seat belt, which is pretty lousy considering how much it cost me. Its useless, coli gets out of it in seconds, it ridiculous and its x small. Also have a Car seat, but since it doesnt have anything to hold him in he just get right out. This is why lately a have doggie purse which I bought a size bigger and this is where a put him, when were hitting the rode. |
Chase has a Lookout Seat and I attach the strap from it to his harness and it gives him room to stand, sit or lay down and he pretty much sleeps on long trips, but he likes to look out the window when we are out about town. |
Harnesses didn't work for us..... We have the Lookout II (with straps that attach to their personal harnesses)that works well for Shelby & Seymour. I have tried the harness thing, but Shelby gets nervous in the car.... and in the carseat she is MUCH calmer. Seymour could care less..... he sleeps before the vehicle is put in gear! :D |
