Flying to the states? We are going to be flying from Germany to the states in a few weeks. Our longest flight is over 10 hours. Does anyone have any suggestions to make the trip with Bella less stressful. She does great on normal trips but I'm just worried about her being in her carrier for that long without being able to get out and go to the bathroom or if she starts whining or barking. She is 5 months old. Thanks for any advise!!:) |
Oh my, that is a long flight for a little one. Are you keeping the carrier up front with you? I'd call the airlines & ask what they normally do for dogs to pee on such long flights. Where in the states are you planning on visiting? Safe travels to you. |
We are flying to South Dakota but have to fly into Chicago first. She will be riding with me in the cabin but it still is a very long flight. What would you guys recommend for feeding her before or during the flight? I have Nutrical that I'm bringing along. Thanks:) |
Light meal before the flight, water but not too much. For the peeing thing, I'd take the carrier into the washroom with you and put a puppy pad on the floor and let her peepee there. Good luck :) |
Thanks for the info, I'll try doing that!!:) |
I'd suggest talking to the airline too...They should have accomidations for dogs on such long flights. Good luck! |
Take a blanket that's about 2 or 3 feet square so you can put her on your lap and cover your shoulders letting it cover her too. She will love being in your lap and will probably be very quiet. Take the Rescue Remedy and give her four drops 45 minutes before the flight. It's all natural and will calm her. I wouldn't be feeding her much if anything at all before hand. Just a little water. It doesn't hurt dogs to go 24 hours without food. Put a wee-wee pad in her carrier and take some extras. How exciting for you. Wish I was traveling. Make sure she has a health certificate. Don't know what the rules are as to how long before you leave to get this, but most are only 3 days. |
i don't know what to do about the flight but check what you need to have to bring a dog into the states: health certificate, vaccine record, any gov. forms you need to fill out, and check to see if you need to put your girl in quarantine when you are (horrible idea i know!) AND don't forget to have the things that you'll need to COME back to germany (doc, forms, etc...) I know i've considered bringing my puppy back with me to the states but it was so much hassle and he'd have to be in quarantine for 3 weeks! it wasn't worth only a 2 weeks stay in the US.... |

Love The Sport Pet 1 Attachment(s) Hi, this is what I was mentioning to you that we got. I just wanted to post this picture of the sport pet, it twists into a round flat circle, flips open when needed and goes back to original when not needed. It fits easily into a suit case or carry on, and nice to put in the bottom of the stroller and it's uses we have found to be so many when needed. Picture taken last year of Baby Blessing near hers. I just bought another small one ( priced at 15.87 at wal mart) for Dollie. There sized from size small to xtra large, I also bought the xtra large one, priced at 24.95 at wal mart, I put their pee pad at one end of it beings it is 42 inches in length, the girls love going in that one for the neccessity of it's use and get their privacy at the same time :) we have found the use of this item to be many, however, when opening be careful in doing so as it wants to flip open so hold away from your face and do open it slowly. This item is not something I would put ours in to leave them unattended, nor used in place of a crate, but it's use we have found to be so very very convenient. Wanted to share our experience of it with you and others. Wishing you a great day. Big Hug to you and hubby over there in Germany and to each and all serving in the military, we appreciate all your many sacrifices. Our prayers are with you all daily.
