Air Travel - Argentina to USA Hi! I've been living in Buenos Aires, Argentina for almost a year now with my boyfriend and we've decided to move to Miami in August. We got a little yorkie in March and he will be coming with me first to visit family in Ohio. I confirmed him, in-cabin, on Delta. The dimensions they gave me for under the seat were 10" x 12" x 9". There is no way my Sushi would fit in there. He weighs about 3.4 kg/7.5 lbs and he's about 9 inches tall from the shoulders down and 16 inches long from neck to the base of the tail. He's a pretty big yorkie but according to those measurements I figure he will fit into a medium sized Sherpa bag, which I have ordered. I called the airline back and actually made up the measurement of the carrier I will be using. I've been doing a lot of research and it seems that the airline gives you measurements WAY smaller than what can actually go under there. Also, I hear that many airlines don't even check the actual bag when you show up to check in. So, I'm taking a risk, but if something goes wrong and they don't let him on, we will make arrangements for shipping which will be AWFUL so let's hope it doesn't come to that. :(((( The trip will be 10 hours + 2 hour layover + 1.5 hour 2nd flight. Hope this goes well! :fingers crossed: |
Welcome to YT :) I've traveled with Nena once and they gave me the measurements for the travel bag but when they checked me and Nena they didn't measure the bag. Hopefully the same will happen to you :) Good luck and have a save flight ;) |
I have traveled a few times with Buster. I would be careful getting a bag too big unless it crushes down. Buster had a hard carrier that I had to place on it's side as it was too tall for Southwest airlines seats. They don't measure the bag but the bag does have to fit under the seat so the dimensions are important. Also the middle seat seems to have the largest dimensions. Honestly you don't want to be dealing with making arrangement to ship your dog when you are trying to fly out. Is there someone there that could care for your baby if suddenly you are at the airport and your bag does not fit. Also some airlines refuse to ship in the warm months as the hold is not temperature controlled so that is a concern too. I would see if you can check the bag out at the airport. I think you really need to make sure the bag fits so you all are not stressed at the airport. I also had to have a health certificate within 7 days in order for Buster to travel on Delta. Have a lovey trip and visit! Pet Travel Requirements & Restrictions | Delta Air Lines These are good carriers that compress but still look to be taller tan the 9" stated by Delta. Sleepypod Air | Dog Airline Carrier and Cat Airline Carrier | Airline Approved Pet Carrier Once you have the carrier keep putting your dog in it with treats so they are used to it before the trip. You may also want to look in to medication to help with anxiety whether prescription or homepathic as that is a very long trip. |
Thatīs what a lot of people have said from my research, so Iīm hoping for that! |
