Found our Apt! When Luma came home to us, I was living with my boyfriend and four other guys in a big student housing apartment. Now my bf is going to be a senior and we have been searching for the perfect apartment for just the two of us, and we have a winner!! We're signing a lease today! The new place is EXTREMELY nice and big and pretty. I love it so much! So my question is how can I make the transition as easy as possible for Luma? We'll be going back and forth between our old and new apts moving furniture, and we're planning on giving her full run of this new apt (eventually) which she didnt have with the old one. She sleeps in bed with us/sleeps in her crate some nights now, but we bought a new bed which is very high off the ground, and I don't want her jumping that height. |
you need stairs for the new bed....best bet to avoid unneccessary jumping. congrats on your new place...i would say shell adjust automatically having less boys to deal with and more room to run!! lol |
I agree with the stairs. My bed is high and I picked up some stairs from Petco. They work perfect for my girls. I bet Luma will adjust better than you think. :) She will soon realize it is home. And Congrats on finding the apartment!!! |
oh yes.. train her from day one on the stairs!!!!!!! We had to take our mattress off the frame for awhile so bailey would not jump. Oh how I wished I had trained them. They go up the stairs but do not like to use them going down. congratulation on the new apartment! Hope your boyfriend has a great senior year! What is his degree? yours? |
I definitely plan to get her stairs, I just think she's going to be a butthead and not use them. How do you train them with stairs? Should my bf sit on the bed and I sit on the floor behind her, and have him call to her with a treat? And thank you guys, this new place is just so pretty. I can't wait to decorate...bf said no to a pink Hello Kitty themed kitchen though :( haha. And Shinja, he goes to A&M, he's a molecular and cell biology major. I went to college early and was going to get a bachelor in music education. I moved and didn't transfer right away, wanted to work, and now I'm going back to school to be a vet tech :p |
cedric took to them right away but i started him as a baby. lola had no clue what to do with them and thats what i did used treats. now she hesitates to go up them but if u you walk away she will jet right up them and doesnt have any issues coming down. if it the only way they can go up and down they will learn to use them. lola is small so she really has no choice. good luck i hope she takes to them right away. |

Congrats on the new apt.!! I am sure Luma will do just fine..and we have stairs because Jada is so short she can't even jump onto the sofa. She has always used them, Bogie was harder, he refused to use them forever, but he is tall and can get onto the living room furniture with ease. Jada will not use the stairs at the bed at all. She waits to be lifted up and she has never jumped off..she sits at the edge and waits for us to sit her down in the morning. |
Brody and Sophia are not fans of stairs (so I'm of no help in that department).... both of them can easily jump up onto and off of the furniture. I do my best to stop them and try to just lift them up. Brody actually likes to jump OVER the stairs onto the couch.... silly boy. Congrats on the new apartment!! When I moved, I made sure to revacuum the new apartment just in case something was missed. When we started moving the items, I kept Sophia crated in the bedroom of the old apartment I constantly came back, took her out of the crate for bathroom breaks & played with her. I didn't want her going crazy with all of the coming in and out of the apartment! We did the move in one day, so it wasn't so bad. After that, Sophia was the last thing to pick up and go!! Good luck :) |

wow... I majored in science (education with a minor in home economics) and now I am certified in both. I can not even make my brain work around some of the stuff I am sure he is into. Also.. vet tech.. I think that is the best..I wish you luck!! My step son -in-law went to Texas A&M so I did visit College Station one time. They just LOVED it, I though it was very nice. Hot....but nice NO HELLO KITTY KITCHEN>..whats up with that lol. I have been married for more years than I want to think and I still have to tone down my pink fluffy side on decorations!!! I think that is why I love having remy.. she doesn't really have a say in how pink and fluffy I dress her. The funny part is I am now into pink skull and cross bone stuff:rolleyes: |
Signed the lease :D we were kinda in competition with a couple other people for this apartment and luckily we got it. I can't wait to move...last week of July/first week of Aug. Thanks for the tips Sarah, your process seems like it'd be the best thing for us to try too. I have a like carpet steam cleaner thing, I use it almost obsessively since Luma used to eat stuff off the floor a lot. Thankfully that was a puppy phase, it seems. Do you guys think we should train Luma to go potty outside now? She uses disposable potty pads right now and she rarely has accidents anymore. The apt I'm in now is on the 3rd floor so we trained her to pads. Should we just stick to what works for us lol? Or has anyone made the switch from pads to potty bells & going outside?? |
Congrats on your new apt :) |
