too soon to travel? I bring Maci home next wednesday, then thursday or friday we may leave for BC to visit the inlaws for Canadian Thanksgiving. It will be a buuusy holiday. Since Maci will be new to us, and we will practically be leaving the next day, should I take her with us, or do you think she will get stressed out? I have a friend who will watch her, her home is quite/peaceful with her, her son, husband and a small/medium dog. But what would be harder on your yorkie... picking her up and leaving her for 4-5 days with a sitter, OR picking her up and immediately driving 15 hours then having her around all your extended family? She is very very very people friendly, she LOVES people. Just wasn't sure if there is a difference between her loving strangers vs. maybe hating being around a ton of strangers outside the home she's had for over 2 years. |
Wow....This is a tuffy.....Considering both scenarios, I lean towards letting your friend petsit. I am not an expert though! But, I would think that you might be too busy to really bond with your new baby and she would have anxiety because she is unsure of what is going on...I think that she would be happier in a quiet enviroment. Like I said, just my opinion!! :D[/FONT] |
I picked Lexi up in the semi and she never saw our house for eight weeks. We drove every single day from day one. She was only seven weeks old (yes way to young now I know). But never had a problem. Not sure how a two year old would be tho. The main thing if you do take her make sure she is eating and drinking well. It is a big decision. I myself could not pick her up and leave her right away. I would want her to get attached to me and my family. Good luck in whatever you decide. |
Same dilemma... I find myself in a similar dilemma. I'm supposed to pick up my Yorkie puppy, Gigi, week of October 23 - but I have a HUGE Halloween Party planned for October 30 at my house. I'm thinking about leaving her with breeder an additional week. Just don't want her to stress or possibly get hurt during the party. Thoughts? |

I would leave her a few extra days with the breeder and pick her up after the trip. |

Yeah i think I'm leaning on taking her with me... we will probably be in BC for a week or more. And the holiday will only last a day or two. And even with all the company around I will probably have her at my side at all times so she knows that I'm the safety net if she needs to get away she can come cuddle with me [she loves the bury under blankets on your lap] The only reason I dont want to leave her with my friend is because of the bonding, my friend will spoil her just as much as I will, and I don't want Maci to bond, then have to come to me and bond yet again. Do you guys think that tethering her to me during the holiday would be good, kinda like "okay maci, we're a team!" lol |
That's a good idea then you can monitor everything and everybody from picking her up. :) |
