Is this "carrier" sickness??? We have taken him for car rides, not in a carrier for 20-30 min and he’s fine. Around Christmas time I took him shopping while in a purse sized carrier and he got sick.. DH said b/c the purse was small:rolleyes:…no it wasn’t. We were gone for about 20min. I think from being in the carrier had something to do w/ it Saturday I took him to the vets office, I placed him in the carrier while in the car and he did fine for the 30 min ride. I toted him in the carrier while we were at the vets office for about 15 min. When we pulled out of the parking lot he got sick., I turned around and went back in (in case it was a reaction to the shots). Dr did give him another shot just in case it was a reaction. The more I think about it, I think it was b/c I was toting him around in the carrier while we were there..We are planning on taking him on vacation w/ us, 2 hr plane and 3 hr in a car, of course he’ll HAVE to be in the carrier while on the plane. I was going to buy some Bonine and try it this weekend on a car ride and toting him around in his carrier for an hour to see if it helps. I dread the fact that he might get sick ( I hate when they feel bad), I would think it would be easier on all of us this way, rather than him suffering for hours and not being able to control it:confused:…..Thoughts??? |
He should do fine in the carrier in the plane since he won't be carried around. ;) |
Sounds that way, got to imagine the motion sickness from the motions of being in a carrier. I'd recommend some sort of motion sickness meds for dogs and see how that works out. |
The first few times I took Remy out in a carrier (not my new kb.. and old one) she would get sick. She also got sick on car rides at first. She does fine now. I agree the motion of the bag moving around could be most of the problem |
So do you all think I should try Bonine to see if it works? If it works then we'll take Dex with us, but if not I haveno choice but to leave him with the breeder :( I don't want to leave him behind, we are so attached as he is us, i can only imagine what he'd think being left behind:confused: |
Many of them will get sick while actually being carried in a carrier because they have the additional motion being caused from your body movement. Think of how easy it is to spill a cup of liquid while you are actively walking and moving around. I have not heard of anyone using Bonine. Generally, Dramamine can be given in small doses to pets, but Bonine is a larger, longer lasting dose than Dramamine. Since the carrier will be still on the flight, he will most likely be okay - especially if he doesn't usually get sick while in a carrier in the car. |
