Sick Of Car Sickness Jackson still gets carsick. Granted, he rarely rides in the car. I just took him to the liquor store with me and he did great until about 2 miles from home. He rides in a bag cause when he's loose he drools all over me and I drive a stick so its almost impossible to drive and hold him while he soaks me. Any suggestions? I found a thread about this from a year ago, and I just wanted to know if anyone has new suggestions, short of giving him niquil before a trip! (kidding bout the Niquil) |
How old is Jackson? He might grow out of it and if not there are things you can get from the vet that will help. Benadryl does help but get the correct dosage from your vet before using any please. All of mine have grown out of it except for poor Maddie Jo...she pukes at the sight of the truck! |
you might try ginger snap cookies. the ginger helps stop motion sickness |
Poor Maddie Jo. I figure he will. I been trying to take him on car rides so that he can get used to riding in the car and not just going to the vet. I'm thinking about getting him a booster seat so he can see out and maybe not get sick.. |
car sickness we have tried benadryl on our 11 mo old yorkie and it didn't work. maybe dosage was too low? we have tried dramamine and that seems to work -- or she is just growing out of it and/or elevation to see out helped. she won't eat ginger cookies. we just got a booster seat to try out on our road trip from NJ to IN and nashville next week. i know people swear by these so i hope she does ok. good luck!! |
Where can I find a good inexpensive booster seat? Another issue with that is I'd also have to get him a harness which I'm afraid to do right now cause I really don't know what size he is going to be. He is charted to be about 5 or 6 pounds but I could end up with a ten pounder and have waisted money on a perfectly good harness... |
I have a five month old puppy and have tried EVERYTHING. Holding her, putting her in the crate, puppy seatbelt....giving her treats, having her in the car while it's not moving, etc etc etc. Nothing has worked. So...the vet suggested Cerenia. And it has worked wonders! We won't use it on short trips, but on the long ones we do. She still drools, but no more vomit. She also doesn't cry anymore. |
booster seat hi tessa. we just ordered this one. i wondered about the quality based on picture and have to say that i am very pleased with it. it looks better and seems sturdier than the pic shows. this was also the best price i could find online. Well, good news, we went to the vet last night and I held him while I drove. He didn't drool or act up too much. On the way home he laid across my lap very quiet. As soon as we got home he threw up on the rug in the living room. At least he held it. Then an hour or so later we drove about 35 minutes to my brothers. I let him loose but had his bag open. He crawled in there and slept the entire way. Was good on the way back home too. He had a long day, LOL |
I'm having the same problem with my 6 month old Gracie. We started going for short rides every other day and she seems to be getting a little bit better because I've seen less drooling. Last week I put her in the elevated car seat and she really seems to like it but still drewls. I think I'm going to try the ginger snaps like sunnie said, they do help with nausa. |
I gave Morgan dramamine last night...worked the same as the cerenia. She still drools but no vomit. |
road trip the cerenia worked great for nola - also remembering to pick up her food 2 hrs before leaving helped. she made the 13.5 hours trip (w/ overnight stop halfway) and back without vomiting. she also made many trips around town, including 2.5 hours to another city w/o meds. i think the new booster seat works great!! she loves it. thanks again for the recommendations all. |
You can try giving him a jelly bean or some ginger before going on car rides, it calms their stomach. If this doesn't work, you can ask your vet to give you a sedative which you give him around 30 mins before going in the car |
Maggie May got carsick from day 1. She threw up the 45 minute car ride home when w picked her up. Once she figured out that she could stand up and look out of her snoozer car seat, she didn't get sick anymore. You should considered getting some type of carseat as it is much safer to have your baby straped in than riding in your arms or lap. Anything can happen. For the cost of a harness, it is just not worth it. :) The snoozer came with a strap that snaps around the seat belt and onto their harness. I would like to get them a riding harness however because in case we should get into an accident, it is better designed/fitted around their chests to prevent harm. |
I'm afraid Camden has never grown out of it, she's 4yrs old. We have tried ginger, medication from the vet, homeopathic & she still throws up! She's as quiet as a church mouse and lays down! In that way she rides the best out of the three, but she just throws up! Once in awhile we get lucky and she won't get sick, but that is more the exception! I sympathize with you! :( |
