How much per day to have someone stay in your home and puppy-sit? We are going away for two weeks in May for training for work. We are thinking about having a friend stay in our home to watch Reesie during that time. What is a fair price to pay per day? |

well that is a hard one to answer, but about 10 years ago I paid 150.00 for a week .my daughters friend stayed at the house and took care of our dogs. I also filled the refrigerator with food. It worked out well bc I didn't;t have to worry. 2 weeks you want to make sure you pay them well so that your babies are well taken care of. Good luck:D |
I would call around to see what the going rate is for an in home sitter. This would give you and idea where to start. We are planning a two week vacation this summer and plan to place Zeus with a sitter who runs kennel free boarding in her home. Average cost is $25 a day. |
We go on trips all the time and have been using the same sitter for our Snickers for about 1 year now. She also has kennel free boarding and treats Snick like family when he goes there. I found her on craigslist and she is wonderful. She charges me 20 dollars per day and 5 dollars per night. I pay her willingly and also get her gifts on holidays b/c she is so good to our babyboy. Good luck:) Great doggy care is just like good daycare for human kids! You only want the best, and when you find it, hold on to it! Smiles- Snick & Viv |
We have a WONDERFUL dog sitter. She charges $75.00 per 24 hour period. Alot, I know, but I have total peace of mind when she is loving our little Bella. We also have a dear friend that does it for $30.00 a day in our home. I can't send Bella out of her home. How I wish we could start a Yorkie sitting forum so you could connect with YTers in your area. It would give everyone peace of mind and certainly be alot cheaper! Good luck! I can't put a price on peace of mind.:) |
Thanks everyone for your replies. This gives me some idea where to start.:) |
So, glad you posted this, I was going to later today!!! lol Now I know where to start tooo! |
I watch the little ones in my own home, and I charge $25 a day, The pups always have their own food brought from home, But everything else I provide. If it is a longterm deal of a week or more I usually charge $20 per day. |

We pay our adult daughter $30 a day to watch the Yorkie. She does not want it, but we would be paying someone else anyhow. She does a great job. I paid around $70 a day for my large Cane Corso, but he got the best of everything at the training favility that he has visited for the past 10 years. He got a Racer bed in his own bedroom of a house, two 15-30 minute walks a day, 1/2 hour training session, play time outside, and was used as a demo dog for new clinets to show how trained and gentle a large breed can be with socialization and training. I could have found a place at $25 a day, but he deserves the best. I notice a lot of people use a service where a person comes to the house to feed and let out the dog, and then leaves, comes back in several hours, walks the dog, etc, but the Dog is mostly alone. My wife would never do that. |
I began yorkie-sitting a couple of years ago when I did it one weekend for a friend. She passed my name on to a few other friends who had yorkies and now I yorkie-sit for quite a few families all the time! I always stay in their homes (even overnight) and make sure those little pups are thoroughly loved on!! I charge $25 per night that I spend there, so that includes me hanging out the afternoon/evening before and feeding and walking the pup the next morning. I have a few clients that just want me to go over and feed and walk the dog and I charge $15 a visit ($25/day max). However, now that I'm planning on getting a pup of my own, I plan on trading weekends with a friend that also has a small pup! She's had a couple instances that she needed a little help and as soon as I get mine, she'll take turns watching my little one from time to time! (Especially through the joys of housebreaking!!) |
Wow!!! You guys are very reasonable! Look at this advertisement I found. I am not personally familiar with this place. Pet Minders - Pet Sitting - Atlanta |
we left ours with a friend for a week and we paid her $50...We are only 22, so that's about all we could afford, but she was fine with it. Don't know how much that helps, but hey, it's one more number for your average, right :) |
I had a friend come and let the dogs out for a while and make sure they had food and water twice a day. I paid her $50 a day she only lived about a mile from me. |
