I carry Cali through security and they use a wand on her and me usually. The carrier has to go thought the X-ray machine.

You can ask them to assign you a seat that has the greatest room for your carrier.

Your carrier will have to have a top that zips closed to assure the dog stays in the carrier (if it is not a service dog).

We travel a lot and have never been refused a ticket based on the type of plane, but things are always changing with the airlines.

Hi, I fly with my Yorkie all the time. At the security where you take of your shoes etc, just take any metal things collars harnesses etc off your dog and then the two of you go through the scan together. I always carry my dog through security. I have never had a problem.

I fly to and from: Charlotte, CLT; Washington DC DCA; Orlando, MCO; St Martin SMX; London, Gatwick in the United Kingdom.

My dog is a service dog so my experience might be a bit different. He is a medical alert dog.

If you plan to take a pet on board an International flight you will need to do a bit of research into the requirements at your arrival destination. Normally, with me, the check in agent will check your documents, health certificate etc., and she/he will verify with your arrival airport that you have everything needed for your dog to land. They don't want to let you on if you won't be able to get off at the other end. Make sure you leave plenty extra time for this.
If you can tell me which country/countries you will be going to, and which airline you plan to use, I can get you the exact correct and current information. A lot of what you'll find on the internet is outdated, and laws have changed. Many airlines will not transport pets in the cabin at all on International flights and some won't even transport pets at all in the summer, not even in the hold because they are not able to regulate the temperature while on the ground.
The first time we flew internationally I felt I was teaching the airline staff the law. I had to stick up for myself and my Yorkie! He is so cute people can't imagine him being useful too

Some countries have quarantine laws so be sure you are aware of those.
Also some "third world" places will not recognize service animals.
Then some countries will only allow animals to enter their country if they have flown as cargo.

Previous poster is very correct in the changing regulations and her recommendation formyou to do you homework for overseas flights is right on as well.

My Yorkies flu with me in 2006 when we moved to China, from Dallas.
They had not problem at all, i gave them small carrots and ice.
Same on the way back home in May 2013. They slept all the time and they could hold their pepe for almost 14 hours.
