Stealing is stealing, doesn't matter the amount or whoever else is double-billing you for your phone bill, shorting your paycheck, breaking the law by killing or maiming or blowing 150 mph right through the school zone. What others do never justifies any of us breaking the law. But if you feel it is okay, the next time you are double-billed on your restaurant check for a dessert and coffee you didn't have, just pay up - hey, everybody else is doing something wrong and you think it's okay as it's not "extreme"! Why shouldn't they do it to you, too?

Princess keke 01-05-2013 12:25 PM

Y'all act like the lady is saying she is going to kill the dog. All she said was she wanted to not have to pay for the dog flight. As many people as they have fly everyday one little dog want hurt their budget. Everything these days are over priced anyways. Like I said once before let's not act like we have never broke the law before! Have a great day I'm done.

How insignificant and "over blown" this topic is, actually is dependent on who is the customer and who is the business. I wonder if the principle "if you can get away with it, go for it" would be taken just as light hearted if someone was doing business with a breeder, that had just sold her a puppy, and had held back all kinds of information, health issues, etc, because the breeder just operating with the same moral integrity of, "If you can get away with it, go for it, just saving money on this inferior puppy, and if I dont get caught, well, hell, I come out ahead!" Suddenly, it aint so funny!

I can swear before all that is precious and important to me, I have NEVER deliberately set out with the frame of mind, "if I can get away with this, I am going for it". I have to live with myself, and my parents demanded a much higher standard from me than that. Rather than cheating or lying or sneaking, if I cant afford something, I just dont go there....

yorkietalkjilly 01-05-2013 01:46 PM

I'm same way. Can't help myself - just honest to the bone. Christmas Eve shopped for last minute things, got a little package of those small 8 oz. clear plastic glasses for anytime anybody wanted a quick drink of water, etc. and checked out, paid my bill, got to the truck, loaded in my things and there sat that tiny clear package in the corner of the basket. I felt like a total criminal! I got in the truck and headed for the door of the grocery store, going to park right by it and run the package back in but a guy came out to collect carts and he took it through the window with my redfaced story of what happened. He just laughed & thanked me. I went home with a light heart feeling good and so glad nobody "caught" me leaving and thought I was trying to steal their plastic glasses! I just can't short or take anything from anyone. It would eat me alive. I can't speed, cheat on my taxes, cheat insurance companies at work or do any real wrong knowingly and sleep nights so I don't. And I can't change it.

Nobody thinks it's so cute when the tables are turned on them and they are cheated some way. But cheating big companies or the government seems to be acceptable somehow. And speeding? Everybody does it. And it's funny to some to think of sneaking and doing it unless it's your precious kid, innocent dog or husband the speeder runs down because they can't stop in time. But when you cheat a big company, you are cheating all those people working for it, cheat the government - you cheat each of us. And I don't think any of the people sneaking dogs on planes would want their own company that writes their paycheck cheated on, as it's ultimately just taking money or bene's out of their pockets. I used to take my own snacks into the movie theater a time or two until it dawned on me I was stealing from them by not buying their snacks! Even at $6.99, and though it grates like heck to do it, I've got to buy their overpriced popcorn rather than bring in my own baked Lays in a baggie!

Princess keke 01-05-2013 02:12 PM

Why are parents being brought into this. So now yall are saying everyone who think this is ok parents taught them to do theses things or said it was ok? Now your saying that people who murder other people parents teach them to do it? I take my own snacks to the movie? How is that stealing it was paid for just not from them.

Yorkiemom1 01-05-2013 03:33 PM

If there is no "house rule" about bringing food/drinks into the movie, then great! Go for it! But if they have a "rule' that you are not supposed to bring in your own concession stand, it is sneaking and lying....not stealing this time, just sneaking and lying and cheating. Why would that silly movie theater not want you to bring in your own food and drinks??? Because you are cutting into THEIR profit margin that they make selling tickets and food from their concession stand. The LAST time I took my son to a movie, it cost me over $20.00 for tickets, and the fun when I was a kid was to get a hot dog, a bucket of pop corn, a drink and 2-3 candy bars. OMG!!! I wanted my son to experience that fun and I am happy he did, because THAT will never happen again! I have paid less at a fancy resturant for a 4 course meal, than what it cost me to get all that junk food at the concession stand! But I guess the movie house pays staff on money it makes in ticket sales and concession stand sales....plus paying for ARMED HOUSTON POLICEMEN to provide security when the policemen are off duty. So I will pay what ever the prices are, as that is keeping someone employed at that theater.

I got to say that it should not cost $6 for a soda what costs them pennies.. They are the ones that are cheating us

Go to cheaper movie houses where it is less $ and you won't feel so cheated? Or complain to movie stars who make $20 - $40 million to do a movie. Wow, it is getting expensive to see a movie, no doubt in large part due to their outlandish salaries! The movie houses have to pay so very much to even get to show a movie and provide big screens with wonderful sound and food service, employ staff to make it all work with work. comp., insurance, vacation, sick pay benefits, salaries, not to mention the immense rent, liability insurance & taxes, all in order for their building to be conveniently placed with a lot of easy parking, their overhead must be absolutely huge. And I imagine if they really charged a ticket to a movie to cover all their overhead, we'd all stay home! But if they portion the cost out to tickets AND food, drink, games in the lobby, etc., it won't seem so bad. There is no rule we have to eat or drink at a movie and I rarely do eat. Usually I just get a Diet Coke - and put a packet of sugar over the ice! I hate it but until the top stars start to charge less for their services, I guess it will keep trickling down to you and me, who line up & pay through the nose. Or get Netflix! :)

Some people are all great and fine with breaking the law until someone breaks the law and it effects them and screws them. The problem with our world today is no one wants to follow the laws and they are not being taught as kids to obey, respect and follow the laws. Just because some people don't follow the laws doesn't make it ok for everyone not to follow the laws. I personally have never purposefully broken a law and don't plan to. A law is a law whether its a big law or a small one it all counts. I would hate for karma to come back at me for breaking a law purposely if no ones life was at stake.

The point is it is wrong to do it to the airline and all the person's fellow paying customers who are honest and pay for their dogs. It is the "deadbeat" as a stealer/cheater is often called that raises prices for every one in the long run as today's airlines mostly operate in the red due to high fuel, liability, cost of the plane and operating costs, not to mention employee salary/benefits/retirement/work-comp. The airlines know there are cheaters for dogs' services, so the honest people all pay more for dogs in the long run to cover the liability issues of having animals on board. The price for carrying the dog helps cover the liability for things like injury to the animal in flight accidents or sudden drops, animal bites, spraying for fleas, ticks from the canine, etc., so all with a canine should pay their fair share for their dog's presence on the trip. For goodness sake, they are getting their dog hauled across the world in the pressurized, temperature-controlled cabin in style and comfort - why wouldn't they think that was worth paying for? Is the dog worth so little to them that his air travel expenses aren't worth anything?

Don't you believe all should pay their fair share or should just some pay up while the freeloaders all coast and "save money"?

I never will understand the concept of some wanting to get something of great value for nothing while others pay. I'd be so proud my dog could ride easily and comfortably, I would gladly pay for his trip in the cabin.

Ummm, don't think the OP has waited since 2009 to make a decision. An additional note, if someone has sociopathic/antisocial tendencies, you aren't going to change their mind with well-intentioned feedback (sigh). Wish it were that simple. It would make my work much easier. Better to just watch your pocketbook. LOL

LOL. We've long ago left OP in history. I was just addressing current postings as this thread is updated from time to time and is still quite relevant. Sometimes people read things that just chafe them but later might consider the words and - some do change from things others say or cause them to think over. I've changed my opinions sometimes due to things I read or heard.

I was just saying how I feel. I have that right. When I go to a movie theater which is quite rare. i do get a small drink and popcorn. but i can still not be happy with the price they are charging!

Anyway good luck finding a cheap movie theater in New York. It is crazy.
