Why is age a restriction for carry on pets? Most airlines say 2 dogs can travel in 1 carrier if they between 8 weeks and 6 months old. Anyone have ANY idea why 6 months? I can see 8 weeks, they don't want dogs too young due to health and stuff, but what difference or what changes (especially in the yorkie) between 6 months and a couple years or 10 years or whatever? My boys weigh less than the allowed weight, fit in a carrier smaller than allowed and are the same breed. I can't even guess as to why they have to be younger than 6 months. Does anyone know? |
They are not thinking about Yorkie sizes but what a regular size 6 month old puppy would be. It is all about $$$ and can they change for 2 instead of 1. I am not sure why they picked 6 months but for people showing an adult and a puppy at a dog show..it does save them some $$$.. |
It just seems ridiculous that they have to be younger than 6 months. Technically a single woman (me) cannot take my 2 dogs on ANY airline ever as carry on, even though together they are too small to fly in anything BUT carryon, and I'm not allowed to have 2 pet carriers. It just makes no sense to me, and how many people in this world have 2 small dogs that they would need to travel with? Its kind of crazy! If their weight and carrier size falls within the restrictions and you don't take them out of the carrier, then there should not be a problem for them. Personally (and I DID write to the airline on this) I feel MUCH better having only 1 carrier with both my babies in it when I'm alone in an airport than trying to keep track of and lug around 2. Its ridiculous IMO. I feel that it IS all about money and thats awful, but it's the way of the world apparently. I wish I could buy my own airplane LOL |
This is the number one reason why i dont have a second yorkie yet. DH and I would LOVE to get another baby...but we fly to florida alot and always take Pasquale with us. It would be fine if my husband always came with me...but sometimes i go down to florida alone and i wouldnt be able to take both dogs with me. You would think for the amount of money they charge for a pet...they would make the exception if your dogs met the weight requirement. Sometimes i feel you can write to the airlines til your blue in the face. I can just picture the employees at the other end of the computer laughing at me before they hit that "standard format letter" in return..."Dear so and so, blah blah blah...yada yada yada...tough noogies" Just a suggestion..did you try southwest...i "heard" you can bring 2 dogs in one carrier on that airline. |

I'll have to pay more attention to which airline is which, usually I just book the most convenient, cheapest tickets... but I think Im going to have to stick with southwest. I actually got my boys on United to ABQ without getting caught and didn't pay on the way there. I snuck them. I know, dishonest, but really it would have been $500 to take them or $1000 to board them for that long and I didn't have that kind of money. So I snuck them on and had no problems.... Now what would they say if they knew that??? LOL United must have had the cheapest flights for me this time around and I booked them, then I get to the airport and since the dogs were the carryon I could only have that one bag so I had a big suitcase for clothes and a small suitcase for toiletries, shoes, etc...well it was $50 to check the bags and $50 on the way home. Sorry I don't think ANY other flight was $100 more than this one. I will not fly United again, at least not for awhile. I am pretty much upset all around at all the charges. I think Continental is pretty good though, they still serve food and a bag is only $15. |
Girlfriend, Southwest is the WAY to go! Look at this! If they fly from where you are to Florida you should be set to get another dog. AND they have no bag fees for up to 2 bags Southwest Airlines Travel Policies - Animals and Pets |

I am thrilled that Southwest finally smelled the coffee and are letting people travel with pets. When I lived in Arizona..that was the airline to fly but I would have to drive to Phoenix (2 hours away) and then pay more to fly through connecting cities if I wanted to take my dog with me... |
