Car Sick Hello. Mochi is about 10 months now and he gets car sick. I want to be able to take him places but we can't even drive more tham 4 miles. Help! Thanks Jaymie |
when you take Mochi out, where is he sitting? Hot Rod got sick whenever I had him in a carrier on the seat. Once I got the snoozer car seat for him he was fine. I think it is like people motion sickness, if you can see where you are going, you'll be okay. Maggie still gets motion sickness but I think she has finally figured out that if she goes to sleep, she won't get sick so now she immediately tries to snooze when she get in the car. It's funny, she'l like a lump all curled up in the carseat. :) Good luck with your little one. |
I use an over-the-counter product called Bonine. It is a travel sickness med that you are able to purchase at Wal-Mart. I give 1/2 tablet for a 5 lb. Yorkie or an entire one for a 10 lb. doggie. I also limit food intake before starting on a trip. There are other solutions out there such as giving ginger. Hopefully someone else will chime in. You might also do a search of YT post and find out what has been said in the past. Good luck. ~Joanne~ |
Ginger or benadryl can sometimes help. |
We travel a very winding road every weekend and don't go very fast on those curves. We have JoJo where he can see out and don't travel within several hours of feeding. Then we only feed him a small amount. I take along a few plain Cheerios for more lengthy trips and feed him as soon as we get where we are going. Just in case, I always have a puppy pad close by. |
I have not tried this myself as none of mine get car sick. The dog catchers wife swears it works. Karo syrup, she said give a spoon full about 15 min before you travel. |
Snickers gets car sick in the early mornings and if I'm not in the car. It's weird. But good luck! |
Chloe gets super sick in the car. I really hope she grows out of it. Its hard to even take her to the vet without her vomiting all over the place! :( |
Pixie get's carsick, but a groomer told me to try ginger snap cookies to help her tummy. |
Our carsickness days are over since my girls started sitting in a secured pet booster car seat. Since they are raised up...and can see out of the window...no more barfin'! :D Here's a link to what kind we have...(they each have their own seat): http://www.snoozer-dog-beds.com/dogcarseats.htm The covers are beautifully made and they wash & dry like brand new, too! Best purchase I ever made for my girls! |
Lucy always got sick in the hard plastic carrier as a pup. I thought myself insane for trying to go to Grandmas with her out of it, since I imagined cleaning puke from the seats, but not so! She does much better just loose on the seat, than in a carrier. Though maybe a harness system would be safer for her? Also, she needs to be in the front seat near the AC vents when it's hot out. Or she smacks her lips alot, like she feels nauseated. Teres |
I would suggest that someone else drive while you hold and play with her in the car. This would make it a pleasurable experience. I might suggest it is a short drive to get her more comfortable. I would also suggest you eating some gum so she does not pick up any anxiety from you (sorry I am into Mental Health). When I showed my dogs in the ring, it was suggested that I chew gum or a mint so they do not pick any anxiety you may be feeling. Anything you can do to create the car driving experience as a normal experience. Hope this helps! |

My Kissie cannot be in a car even for a short time. She is crying and anxious all the time. |
There are some homeopathic anti-anxiety medications that might work, like Rescue Remedy. I have a few friends who swear by this product for their puppies. |
