Food on airlines?? Riot is flying with me to a family Reunion in July. We have a pet friendly hotel room booked, a reservation made for him to be in the cabin on both leaving and return flights, our Petflys carrier is on the way, and we are going to the vet two days prior for an up-to-date and valid health certificate I know you cannot take water bottles through security, and I am perfectly fine with buying a few bottles of water after we go through security. My question is about food. Can I put some of his food in a ziplock and take it through with me? Or does it have to be sealed/unopened when we go through security?? I can't seem to find much info on the FAA website...   |
i have taken canned dog food and dog cookies thru security with no problem. I put the canned food in a little clear baggy and let it go thru the security scanner seperately. Something about the can sets it off....and if its out seperately, you'll get thru without them opening everything up. Have a good time at the reunion. |
I too have taken food with me on the plane. I don't intend to feed Scooter while we are traveling but when I don't check my luggage, I have to. I put his canned food in a separate ziplock bag. I pulled it out and put it in the bin with my cosmtics when we went through security. The persn monitoring the scanner looked at it as it came out, saw it was dog food, and let it pass without issue. I then shoved it back into my bag and off we went. Dry food won't set off the scanner and does not need to be pulled out (I put a few cups in a ziplock for our trips). How long will you be traveling? I don't give Scooter food while traveling because I can't let him out of his carrier if he needs to poop. I also don't give him much water because he also can't get out to pee. When we fly, the flying time varies depending on which airline we use. It is between 1 1/2 hours and 3 1/4 hours. He sleeps most of the time so he doesn't ask for anything. He gets food and water as soon as we land at the final destination though. I do keep treats in my purse for him in case he needs a little something. Before we go to the airport, he pees and poops so I know he won't need to on the plane. Good luck with your trip. |
Since it's not recommended to feed 3 hours prior to traveling, I usually pack the food in my suitcase. Water I usually buy as soon as arriving at our destination, let them potty and give a bit of water. |
i would just put it your bag. don't say anything unless security questions you. plus.. it's a good idea to have kibble on you in case your baggage gets lost. |
