Seoul to Boston, Round #3 Well, Meg and I will be taking our third around-the-world flight on Friday. Trips 1 was perfect, 2 was 90% perfect, and I'm hoping that 3 will go well, too. We're flying from Seoul, Korea to Boston with a layover in San Fran. Meg has always been comfortable in her carrier (after a short period of whining), but I popped her in teh carrier a couple days ago and she barked, cried loudly, and clawed to get out. Granted she is in heat at the moment, so she is feeling ancy and a little 'off'. Poor baby. We'll spend a week in the Boston area, then we're headed to Wyoming. We're flying one leg of that trip on Frontier Air, which does not allow dogs in the cabin, so they'd BETTER take the service dog letter. I'm definitely nervous aout that. NO WAY are they putting her in the baggage area. That would have to happen over my dead body - literally. I was debating getting a larger carrier for her... Maybe she feels claustrophic in the one she has now? It's definitely big enough for her to lay down and stand, but it could be bigger. I guess I'll do another test run when I get home and see if she's comfortable in it still. Anyway, now I'm rambling, so I'll finish this post. Just wanted to let all of you who loyal traveling-section readers know that I have a trip coming up soon. Fingers crossed that United won't have any trouble with my service dog note. They accepted it last time so hopefully we won't have any trouble again this time. It's always a little scary when you are in a foreign country and trying to explain a US policy to people who don't speak English very well. |
I am worried about traveling with Marley when it's our time to go back to the states. Would you mind giving me some details on what airlines you took and how you went about everything? And good luck with your 3rd trip. I wouldn't want my dog in the baggage area either. I agree- over my dead body! |
Of course I'll share! I have only flown on United with Meg. I have a service dog letter for her and United seems to be the best company to fly on - so far. Knock on wood that I don't have any problems on Friday. I know people have flown on Delta/Korean Air with their dogs, but I think the ticket has to be booked under Delta, even though Korean Air runs the flight. You need to get a reservation for your dog ahead of time (WAY ahead of time) since 3-4 dogs are allowed in economy and the spaces fill up fast. Service dogs don't apply to this limit, of course. I bring along pee pads and put them on the baby changing table so Meg can go to the bathroom during the flight. I also take her out in teh bathrooms if the flight attendants are strict and won't let me take her out while I'm in my seat. I try to tire her out a lot that morning iwht a good walk and NO naps so that she can conk out on the plane ride. That's all I can think of at the moment, but of course there is lots more.... let me know if you have any specific questions. In the meantime, I'm going to hit the sack! |
Where are you staying in Boston??? good luck on your trip!! Weather here hasnt been so great lots of rain :( |
I'll be in Nashua, NH, then hopefully beautiful Portsmouth for most of my trip, but I'll also be in the city a bit. What has the weather been like? Tell me it's HOT beach weather!! |
Well sorry it hasnt been very nice here at all, not to many beach days either, we will be lucky to reach the high 70's this week! Its been a bit dreary... kind of damp and a bit chilly! |
Oh man, well THAT's going to just have to change! lol... Hopefully next week will be better. And thank you for reminding me to pack a lot of layers!!! |
Just thought of one LoL What is the longest you have had her in her carrier. I think I would feel so bad if I had to keep her in the crate for 13 hours! And Marley is potty shy... she still goes, but she seems to go in the corner where we can't see her in the house. hence why I put the pee pads in that area! |
Oh yeah , another... how did you get her to be qualified as a service dog... I would like to do that if possible. |
