Cats and Dogs can fly on SW Airlines starting June 17!! Cats, dogs can fly Southwest Airlines starting June 17 Just in time for summer, Southwest Airlines is reversing its longtime no-pets policy. Starting with tickets booked June 1, for travel June 17 or later, you’ll be able to bring a small cat or dog aboard for a fee of $75 each way. Pets will still be banned from the cargo hold. For the rules, check out a cute video, featuring Ace the dog and an improbably enthusiastic kitten (this is a feline?) named Frankie, that Southwest posted on YouTube and its blog site. Or you can read the details and a Q&A on the airline’s P.A.W.S. (Pets Are Welcome on Southwest) page. Southwest’s program name recalls the JetPaws program that JetBlue Airways started in December. But there are differences. JetBlue, for instance, charges $100 each way, and it awards two frequent-flier points per pet for each flight. Southwest doesn’t give frequent-flier points to pets. Also on June 1, for flights June 17 or later, Southwest will add a $25 service charge each way for unaccompanied minors (now free) and raise the fee for a third or overweight checked bag from $25 to $50. The first two bags remain free. Southwest said the changes were meant to help cover its costs. — Jane Engle, assistant Los Angeles Times Travel editor Here's the article that i copied that from: http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal...n-fly-so-4560/ |
That's great, my niece moved to Tenn last year and got a small cocker so hopefully she can fit her under the seat. |

OH MY GOD.... You guys just made my day... TWICE! I'm SO happy the SW is finally allowing pets and only charging $75/each way. That is INCREDIBLE!!!!! And SW is coming to LOGAN!????????????????? OH MY GODDDDDDDD, could this day get any better?!?!?!?!? Granted I will prob still fly out of Manchester since it's easier to get to, but I'm guessing Boston will have WAY more flights going out. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D |

SW You just made my day. Lila & Mia |
This is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo AWESOME!!!! |
Yippeee!! We fly Southwest from Dallas Love to see our son in Seattle!! I've always hated that they didn't take pets, but preferred not to fly from DFW. I'm SO happy about this:D |
OH YAY, just seeing this now...we have SW here, so I'm thrilled. :) |
I am soooo happy! |
$75 is a bargain! I just paid $125 on Continental. |
Flying doggies' cost This was posted on Yorkie talk. We fly Delta and they charge $150. each way for a dog flying under the seat!!! They don't even get "miles" or a snack or treat!! Maybe if all of us who fly Delta complain to the CEO about the cost hopefully they might decrease it. I'm going to write and tell them they will lose our business for 2 tickets each time we fly because we can't afford to pay $300 for our little Yorkie. Let's get going and bombard Delta with letters. I think I will send mine via snail mail because a computer probably answers the email. Scooter and I flew Southwest on June 17th. Instead of having to fly through DFW, we were able to get on a direct flight which is SO NICE. Yes, it was a cattle call because we had to fight for a seat but it shortened our trip by two hours which I greatly appreciated. Word for the wise, until they get the kinks worked out, buy a business select fare. I always fly Southwest unless Scooter is traveling with me and I have never had a problem. This time, I am assuming because of the pet reservation, I could not do online check in. I luckly thought that would be a problem and booked the business select rate. I was able to board at the beginning and sit in front of the wings (really helps his mood on the plane). Scooter was the first pet to fly out of the airport on Southwest so it also took 15 extra minutes while two managers and the ticket agent tried to figure out how to work the new system. It cost $75 which is still cheaper than American (what I normally fly with him). They did not check his health records even thoughI had them ready should they have asked. Long story short, there are still a few things for them to work out but all in all, it was really nice. Be prepared and go early but it will work out. |
