Advice on bringing my new puppy home (2 1/2 hour drive) Does anyone have any advice for bringing my puppy home next month? She will be 10 weeks and we have a 2 1/2 hour car ride to bring her home. Also, what if we have to make a stop at a store or something (don't forsee it but covering my bases) can we bring her in if she is in a carrier? We live in Florida and we will be making the drive from Tallahassee to Lake City. We do a lot of traveling as a family and we want her to travel with us so I have a lot to learn about traveling with a yorkie. Thanks everyone! |
She should be fine! When they first their mama and siblings, they will always be very nervous and scared no matter how long the drive home is. I would just have her in a warm crate with warm blankets... if you have more than one person in the car, you can definitely hold her if you'd like. I know when I picked Jackson up, he did better on the floor wrapped in a warm blanket. When I was holding him, he threw up! lol. It's just something they have to get used to... make the car a good thing, give the pup treats and let her know that car = good thing! Although, you may want to make sure she doesn't eat or drink an hour beforehand in case her tummy gets upset. Patience and practice :) Jackson was a horrible car rider from the time I got him at 9 weeks old until about... 18 weeks weeks old. I just consistently took him for car rides and he got used to it |
