(SUPER!) extended car rides :)
 
My DBF and I are driving from WA to CA (791 miles woohoo :() this weekend and are taking Kingston with us.

The first time he rode in a car he threw up, but I think it was because he was nervous. We had just picked him up from his previous mommy so I'm thinking he just had a lot going on. Now it's about a 1:3 chance that he throws up in the car. Most times he does really well, but occasionally he'll still get sick (usually on really curvy roads).

Now I'm a bit concerned though about such a long ride for such a small little dude! Have any of you ladies taken your little one on an extended car ride? Did they fair well?

I'm calling my vet tomorrow to see if there is anything he could take to help with the nausea. Has anyone heard of anything that's SAFE for them to take to help with this?

I took mine to Illinois last year(850 miles) and 4 little dogs. We have a van, so took the back seats out, laid down pee pads, and took a water bowl and food. Also put 3 beds in the back. Ginger snap cookies are good to give him if he gets a little car sick. Hope you have a nice trip. How long are you staying for?

TY for your response! We are staying with my mom and dad for about 11 days. He'll have my mom's little dog as a playmate once he finally gets there.

We just got back from a 680 mile trip and Bella did fine. Although she doesn't eat and drinks very little while on the road. Her choice. I keep a pillow in my lap and her bed in the back seat and she goes back and forth. Of course we stop often to stretch our legs and she gets out to sniff around. Hope the little guy does well.

I had just read one time, you know how ginger ale calms your stomache? Well, they said ginger snaps would help with dogs when they get car sick. Actually a lot of times, it is not that the dog actually gets car sick(infact a very small amt of them actually do), most of the times it's nerves..

we took 4 of ours over 3500 miles last summer and will be taking them all about 6000 miles next summer. I love that they travel so well.

ii jus brought my pup home yesterday and he too threw up on the way home =( best of luckk with that long car ride! ii also was gunna name him kingston but i chose princeton instead and now we jus call him prince :)

Abbey is used to long car rides as she rides with me home every couple months from Austin TX to El Paso TX which is about 8 hours. I put her bed in the back seat and she usually sleeps the whole way. Also bring a travel water bowl and some treats/food. I stop every couple of hours at the rest stops which have losts of grass for her to potty. I know if you go to the vet you could bet something for dogs who have anxiety about traveling to help calm them down. It basically makes them very sleepy. But if you dog is calm in the car, there is no need for it. Good luck with your travels and happy howlidays!
