Do you guys think it's a little obnoxios that we have to pay so much to fly with our pets considering that they don't require an addtional seat and zero care from the flight attedants? Mabe I'm missing something here. |
Maybe it's insurance reasons? But yes I do find it obnoxious! |

Ughhh! Tell me about it. I just booked ticket from CA to PA, and paid an additional $200 for my little girl. Regardless... its expensive, but worth having her with me. :) |
I think it is totally unfair as why should I pay for my dog to fly with me and the guy sitting next to me gets to bring his dirty laundry for free..:D..but having said this the airlines are in trouble and they have to figure out ways of making money and this is called free enterprise. I read the other day somewhere where now they are considering the humans weight and the luggage they bring along...:( |
I agree they are put under the seats... sometimes if the airline stewards like dogs you get to get show them off. I have on occassion paid more for their flights than mine. |

Now some airlines are making you pay for your luggage. And water and soda in the airport is twice the price that you would pay for the same items at the grocery store--yet you can only take water and soda on if you purchase it after security--in the airport. One recent flight charged $4.50 for a glass of water--you had to buy the bottle--no free drinks on Spirit Airlines. BTW they had no "spirit". The airlines have been charging for the dogs to fly under the seats for a long time--it is a money maker for them. I've heard that some airlines have done away with pillows and blankets--you have to buy them before you board the plane from airport kiosks. |
Well, we sent our daughter's 2 yorkies back to Hawaii in Feb. and that cost $300 for both and they were in the pressurized cabin where the ship live animals !!!! Probably in the dark too!!! Maybe it was better in the dark...They wouldn't even let us put them in the same crate...I cried as I left the cargo part of the airport ...They got there fine and are happy little girls...:aimeeyork:aimeeyork And also had to have a rabies test (no rabies in Hawaii) that cost $300 each and they had to was 120 days to enter to avoid quarantine...What we do for our babies... |

I think it is horrible. They are treated just like the carry on luggage and we don't have to pay extra for that...............................yet. |

Here's what I do for water. I take an empty bottle through security and then fill it up in the water fountain on the other side before I board. I've done this eight times, even when flying international, and have never had a problem. |
hm.. if you fly korean air, i read that they only charge your dog as extra luggage per kg and the limit is 5kg which is sufficient for a yorkie. ive never travelled with a dog mainly because my mickeyw ill get depressed that my parents aren't around. but i plan on doing so when i buy a new puppy in korea.. but i think its crazy how some airlines you need to get your pet vaccinated 10 days before you leave. what if your dog was vaccinated 3 months ago?? thats unfair! |

Regarding all the new charges on board... we went to Cabo last Oct. On the way there we were on Mexicana Airlines. EVERYTHING was free, even the cocktails, it was GREAT!! Can't say the same for the way back on United, there was a charge for everything it seemed! |
it's just one more insane way to get money from us and supposedly most of them will be raising their rates, as they all keep charging for everything :( |

When we traveled KLM last summer, at the airport everyone was oooh and aaaah and oh he's so cute! On the plane was a diff story. Dont get me wrong, they were very nice and polite about it, but when she saw jake on our lap she said that KLM doesnt allow that. But by her expression it was obvious she wasnt the one that made that rule. KLM is 150 for under 10lb i think? But WTH why so expensive?? So I might as well take my big carryon purse and put my baby in there! No one will know. Except when they see her at the security gate lol. But no one there will say anything. Theyre all oooh and aaah. |
oh yes definately... especially when they are your carryon, so its not even like you are taking 2 carryon bags... just one, and they do not charge you for a carry on bag! I don't get it either. I know they want to make money any way they can, but it could be a bit more affordable in my opinion... like $100 round trip! ggeezz |

in some cases you may be paying more for your baby's ticket then for your own!! AND they don't even give you an extra seat!! if that's the case i wonder if you could just buy another passenger ticket.. and get another seat all to yourself(but that wouldn't make the pet fee go away, i guess:rolleyes:) geez so frusterating.. all that money for UNDER THE SEAT!! :( :thumbdown but what do you expect, i guess.. like dee said in an earlier post.. $4.50 for some water & no more pillows/blankets!! :thumbdown |
I think it is very wrong!! I am paying an extra $100.00 ($50 each)for my 2 on WestJet as we are flying one way to Prince Edward Island on the 4th August. Atleast they get to be under my seat with my dh and myself! I can't believe it costs so much more because they don't take up any room, don't eat or drink anything and don't need any service from the Stewardess:rolleyes: |
Yes! It's a rip off! |
I know this is an older thread.... but i saw this and couldn't resist adding.... On American Airlines a child under 2, sits on their parents lap and flies for free. I just checked their website, and this policy is still valid. I just think its funny....because my dogs are quieter than most of the children I encounter flying :p ~In no way am I insulting children, I am a proud aunt to a 5 year old princess and love little munchkins (we plan on having 2-3 of our own one day!)....just thought it was funny :D Since the yorkies are like our children. |
I always thought $50 was crazy because like you said they are under the seat. This year most airlines raised the rate to $80 one way. But then again, everything seems to be going up. LuLu:animal36, Bosley Beamer:animal36, and Baby Zoey's :animal36 Mommy |
If you ship cargo one way is $200 and up depending on weight and crate size. Now that's ridiculous!! |
I also agree, I lost my sister in the 911 attacks she was in the pentagon. so I planned to go this year to the events and take my little yorkie Fantasia, I called 3 airlines and my ticket is 144.48 quoted from the airlines I called and for her I was told 125,150,100, and those was each way and mine is round trip and she will be under the seat. my son said for those prices she needs her on seat and a pillow and a drink. Its less the a 2hr flight. |

I was so happy to have her go with me that I would have paid whatever price they asked. I just couldn't have left her. I would have had to stay home if she couldn't go. |
