No idea how that happened! My son is coming home from Iraq for a few weeks, so the whole family (10adults, 4 children, 2 infants) is going to his house for a few days (2 hour roadtrip). I'll be taking all my doggies for our first pleasure trip. We made an unpleasant hurricane evacuation trip a few years back. My concern is that Fancee is due to whelp the week before our trip. Has anybody ever taken new puppies on a roadtrip? Should I leave her and the pups with my friend who is experienced with doggies and new puppies. Part of me says that I shouldn't stress her with travel, but I'm afraid she'll be stressed if I leave her. Of course, I don't want to miss spending time with my son. |
I would leave the new mother and babies with a trusted friend......... they will be too small to take along... |
is there anyway your son can come to you instead? I definitely would not take a newborn litter of puppies on a roadtrip - wow too many concerns there & it sounds like too many people too. If your son can't come to you, find an educated trusted friend who can start coming over on a regular basis now, so your girl gets used to her. It would be great if your friend could be there when the puppies are born & be in the house during that 1st week - hopefully that would relieve the stress momma would have about you being gone for 2 days Also, please give your son a hug from ME & tell him thank you for serving in Iraq for all of us!! |
Still working out a plan. For now it looks like I'll take Fancee and possible pups to a friend about 30 minutes away. She has a handicapped daughter and can't plan on coming to my house every day. I asked my MIL to come stay at my house, but she wouldn't. I thought about asking a neighbor to come over, but hubby reminded me that I'm too OCD for that. I need somebody who I can trust to weigh the possible pups twice a day, taking Fancee's temperature, watching her hydration, and babying her. My friend has two pugs that she breeds and caters to, so she'll do well. I just wish I didn't have to move Fancee. |
