Anyone Who's Flown w/ Carry-on Pet... What exactly do they do to enforce the "size" of the carrier your pet's in. Do they take out a measure tape and literally measure your bag? etc.. I'm going to be flying with Daisy for the first time [to the YT Meetup] and need to know what/how they enforce that rule. We're flying Continental and I know on their website they have max measurements that your bag cant "exceed" I just went out today and bought a PetsFly bag (Small) and it's one inch higher then they allow. And also on the site it says that "..your pet must be able to stand and turn around in it.."---now seriously, will they make her stand and twirl when we check in?? Daisy's 6.5lbs. 10" height (the bag is 10" high:eek: ). There's no way she'll be able to stand all the way! Please let me know what your experience was flying with your pet!!! |
when we went to get Macy, no one checked the size of the bag. no one checked anything! we flew northwest, im sure all airlines are different. on the website it stated that the dog must stay in the carrier under the seat but we flew with her on my lap and the carrier under the seat lol. they were very very nice. |
As long as the carrier fits under the seat, you're fine. |
So I'm getting the idea that they dont really check to see if there's "enough" room in the carrier. Just as long as there's a ventilation side and fits under the seat. |

Hmmm, yeah you got it. :D |
when I flew with Hope I could have had a tarantula in there... they didnt look at anything, just put a flight tag on the carrier and I went on my way. She wasnt even IN the carrier when they tagged it... haha... If you have good "neighbors" on the flight, you can take her out, I did-really just put her carrier in my lap and unzipped it. No one said anything.... it was a very easy trip! |
We had to put the Sherpa carrier into a 'box' to make certain the size was right. They both rode with us and sat on my lap for the flight. We only put them inside for take-off and landings. |

I am glad you posted this because I didn't realize that its higher in height. I also am flying Continental and am using a (Small) PetsFly Bag...but Bailey will have a bit more room than your baby as he is a 3.5lber. Can't wait to see you there! |
The maximum height for the carrier varies on airlines and is supposed to have a direct correlation to the height of the underneath seat in front of you. Even though the Sherpa is considered more of a hard-sided carrier, the top will still "give" a little bit if it is slightly too tall. |

How big is your carrier? and approximately how large was this "box"? Thanks! |
We have flown a lot I have flown with Mozart quite a bit. He is a little over 10 lbs. No one had ever checked the size of the bag yet. However, some airlines have let me keep him on my lap and others have made him stay in the carrier under the seat. I have used a soft no name carrier and now I have very nice Celltei for both Mozart and Emmy. The advantage of the Celltei is it is made for air travel. It will collapse slightly to fit under the seat. |
