Anyone Who's Flown w/ Carry-on Pet... What exactly do they do to enforce the "size" of the carrier your pet's in. Do they take out a measure tape and literally measure your bag? etc.. I'm going to be flying with Daisy for the first time [to the YT Meetup] and need to know what/how they enforce that rule. We're flying Continental and I know on their website they have max measurements that your bag cant "exceed" I just went out today and bought a PetsFly bag (Small) and it's one inch higher then they allow. And also on the site it says that "..your pet must be able to stand and turn around in it.."---now seriously, will they make her stand and twirl when we check in?? Daisy's 6.5lbs. 10" height (the bag is 10" high:eek: ). There's no way she'll be able to stand all the way! Please let me know what your experience was flying with your pet!!! |
I have flown several times with a pet carry-on. They didn't measure or check if the dog could turn around. They just make sure when you are seated that the whole carrier fits under the seat in front of you, and that the carrier allows a free-flow of air for the pet. |
Hi, shes adorable! I flew home to FL from AZ when I picked my lil Duncan up from the breeder out there. I was a nervous wreck because he was so small, but I just walked confidently through security (like I knew what I was doin), took him out of the bag and picked it up on the other side and nobody said a word. When we actually boarded the plane, I did the same thing. Most airlines wont give you too hard a time as long as the carrier will fit under the forward seat. More and more people today are flying with wee dogs and cats so the airlines have had to "get on board" with it. Just to be safe tho, I would call and talk to a supervisor and just ask. Make sure you get their name and info in case you need to refer. Good Luck and happy travels!! Duncan and Elizabeth P.S. I;m getting ready to take Duncan to England for 3 weeks YIKES! :) |

The carriers I fly with are all too big but they have soft corners and can be smooshed down at the top. it's a struggle sometimes to fit them under the seat but no one has ever checked. |
will they make her stand and twirl when we check in?? No but it might be cute :D As far as the size... if it does not fit under the seat you will have to fly her in cargo (WHICH I DONT THINK ANY OF US WOULD DO) or they will have you step off the plane:( |
they are not the most stylish of bags but Sherpa makes a bag especially for flying... it is the exact dimensions. :D |
I have a lot of carriers but the last trip we went on I bought this carrier for flying and LOVE it. It weighs NOTHING and Teddi has lots of room in it. Also it squishes but still maintains its shape so it would never be too high. The other ones I have either squish down completely where she would be scared because she would feel smooshed or are hard and I would be scared it wouldn't fit under the seat. This one was great for travel!! Also it has a long strap so I can throw it over my shoulder and not have to hold it on my arm. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...%3D4%26ps%3D42 |
no experience what so ever but if for some reason they did make sure she is all dressed up in her dress and bow and they will probally just ignore it !!! Ive gotten out of a couple of tickets because of Bleu and he is a boy! Go figure:p :p :p |
I have a PetsFly carrier and they do not squish down so you may have a problem. Maybe you could but a cheap smaller one. |
I always fly expressjet and they are all too busy lovin on my boy to even care what he is in, they would let me walk him on the plane with a leash if i wanted. but then again expressjet is the best airline ever. They let yogi lay on our laps so he was never really in the bag to begin with. you should be good but ive had nothing but great experiences flying with expressjet. the biggest thing is the rabies shot records. but even then we flew before he was able to have his shot and they didnt care. |
All of it depends on the people you get at the airport and the moods that they are in! Just cross your fingers and hope you get an animal lover...and make sure your dog looks cute!! |
I started a thread about this same thing about 3 mths ago - http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=105755 Lots of responses there. What I did was go online & look for the measurements of the underseats for the type of airplanes I would be flying on. Because that's the biggest concern, if the bag doesn't fit under the seat, you will have to let a flight attendant take her & your bag :( I looked at all kinds of bags, rolling ones, sherpas, etc -- I ended up buying something on clearance at petco - I have plenty of purses for the yorkies, I figure the only time I\'ll use this flying bag is when I fly again - which probably won\'t happen often, and I didn\'t want something that screamed DOG |
I flew Continental with Pixie from Cleveland to Florida and it was a breeze. There was not even so much as a second glance toward the carrier or Pixie inside. No measuring and no twirling. I paid for her when I booked my ticket online so I don\'t know if that made a difference. From what I\'ve read, it can really depend on the stewardesses and who\'s working at the gate. I\'ve had flights where Pixie has been able to sit on my lap the entire flight. You should be fine because you have a bag that is made specifically for flying. Good Luck! |
They did not even LOOK at the bag I used when I flew my 2 boys to New Mexico for xmas & new years! I mean I had to remind them I was traveling with dogs and even then the woman was like \'whatever\' ... noone looked, noone weighed, measured, asked anything! |
