To feed or Not to feed (airplane traveling) ok, here's my situation. We are leaving our house at 4:45 am - We have a flight at 8:45 am (NY time)and landing at 12:30 (AZ time). Here's our normal schedule: Doggies eat at approx. 7:30 am (they poop either right before, but def. after) What to do??? I am thinking that I should NOT feed them   That I should wait until we are in AZ, but that'll be around 2 or maybe 3 pm :( Please give me some advice??? * Also, this will be our first time flying Delta - Are they good or bad? |
Feed them before you leave the house and give them time to poop. I would feed them only maybe 1/2 their meal so they don't have a full tummy on the plane. I just know how obnoxious mine are if they don't get fed! |

Yeah, I guess since I will be up by 3 am - I can feed them a little something, and that will give them 1 hour and 45 mins to pee and poop. Although, they will be stressed b/c things will not be normal, and they tend to 'hold on to things' when stressed. And there's NO WAY they are pooping at the airport - I know them all to well, it won't happen :( |
Great Q&A....I was pondering this same thing recently. |
If you are guaranteed they will go, I would feed them. That's a long time to wait. |
Yep, I'd feed them at least 1/2 the food bc otherwise their empty tummies could feel nauseous. As in, sometimes if I get super, super hungry - it almost makes me feel a little sick. So, with air travel, I probably wouldn't risk an empty tummy. Welcome to AZ!! :D |
I'd feed them before you leave - perhaps when you get up for your very early flight. See if they'll go again when you get to the airport -- they may very well surprise you, because other dogs have been there before them, they may want to leave their mark too ;) I went thru this at Christmas time. I didn't have as big a gap in flying time as you, I choice to not feed them before getting on the plane in the early am and planned to feed them once we landed, but ended up waiting about an hr longer until we got to my parents house -- I think all the excitement and unusual activities kept their minds off food, because they never once barked, acted hunger, etc. Good luck with your flight. Have a great time in a much warmer environment :) |
