Shipping a dog from the U.S. to Canada ... Hi Everyone, I spent a bit of time reading through the forum "Traveling with Yorkies" to see if I could find recommendations and pricing for airlines that would be best to use for shipping an adult Yorkie from the U.S. to Canada ... Here are some questions I have: a) What is the general price range of flying a dog? I read online that there is usually a $50 to $100 fee for bringing your dog with you as you travel and placing them under your seat. I'm wondering about pricing for just flying a dog to one destination. b) What are the general conditions for shipping pets? I've never done this before and would like to know how pets are treated by airlines? c) Do any YT members recommend certain airlines above any others in regards to the way they treat pets and the comfort level of their trip. d) I am familiar with U.S./Canada paperwork for bringing a dog over the border. Are there any extra regulations in regards to shipping your pet? What type of kennel is recommended? I look forward to learning from everyone's incredible wealth of knowledge. Thanks, Jamie |
You will get better info- in the morning, but I shipped a poodle for sister(IN the states though) it cost about $250- which included health check from vet, crate. The airlines will not take animals if the temp. is not right-over80 or 90degrees- and under 40 maybe. I think that is a law maybe. Also mine was bumped once off the flight- which in the end I was glad- had to wait 2 more days- but got a straight through flight. If you go with them- they go with you in the cabin- if not they go in cargo. I know others will know lots more than I do! If you are shipping to up there- it might be to cold this time of year! That is what I'd check into first! |
1 more thing- the crates have to be approved by the airlines-but that is no big deal- I think most are! And like i said- i only have had to deal with this once! vet check has to be within so many days- 5 or 10- someone will know all the facts on this in the AM |
Bump up thread |
Thanks ... I did some research last night and found the price range of shipping a dog is anywhere between $50 to $250 depending on the airline. That is very reasonable pricewise ... I'm just concerned about how the animals are treated by the airlines. |
I did check out shipping a puppy from the USA.Best thing is to check on expedia.ca for the shortest flight durations. Not sure where you are located in Canada.I found it complicated as I am on the Westcoast and it seemed best to have the pup flown to Seattle and then bring it across the border myself.I have heard Delta and Northwest are pet friendly.I ended up getting my little biewer from Germany as it was a direct flight to Vancouver. It worked out best for us.She is beautiful and very healthy.:) :) :) |
Thanks! I look forward to hearing other stories. |
