Update re: husband's surgery Thank you all for you good wishes, thoughts and prayers. It means the world to me!!!! You are all such good people. My husband had his surgery today. It was long. They took him in at 7:30 and the surgeon came out at 12:30 to speak with us. He said it went well, he now has pulses in his feet, did not need a transfusion. the surgeon seemed happy. My husband is in ICU - I don't know for how long. His blood pressure was high when we left. So they gave him something for that. He will probably be in the hospital for a week. Both my sons stayed home from work to be with me at the hospital. We got there 5:30 this morning and came home about 6:30 tonite. It's been a long day. So again, my dear YT friends, thank you for your support and kindness! Valerie |
So glad to hear he made it through surgery and is on the mend. I will certainly keep praying for your sweet man. Hope he's home very soon. |
Glad to hear he is out of surgery and being well taken care of. Sending good thoughts and blessings for a complete and uneventful recovery |

how is he doing today |
happy to hear he has come through surgery, prayers for a good recovery |
Hi everyone. Again, many thanks for your good wishes and prayers. I appreciate it so much. His BP is lower, he has pain which is to be expected. The doctor wants to get him up in a chair today. He doesn't want to do that but he has no choice. I told him the more he can move the sooner he will get out of ICU. We can visit 24 hours a day so it's convenient for my sons to run in before and after work. The staff is wonderful. So my son and I are going to go visit in a little bit. Bring his slippers and the NY Post. Again, thanks everyone so very much for your support!!!! Valerie |
Great news. The more he gets moving the better he will feel also. It's hard when you hurt though. Keep us posted. Continuing praying he will be out of pain and home soon :) |
Another update Hi. they had him sitting in the chair today. The dr. wants him to cough to clear out his lungs but he can't cough because it hurts. They might move him to a regular room tonight out of the ICU. That is good news. Hopefully they will remove the NG tube and let him start on liquids. It's going to be a hard recovery and he has to be positive. I told him he is not going to feel back to normal in a few days. He has to be realistic. He does look good considering he had a 5 hour operation. I'll update you all tomorrow. thank you again for all your prayers and good wishes!!!! Valerie |
I'm happy to hear your husband is improving. He will get better much quicker once he is able to come home. I know it's too early for that, but even getting out of ICU will bring about positive changes. My best wishes and prayers are with both of you. |
thanks for the update each day will hopefully get much better |
I am so happy to read that his surgery went well. Prayers going out for his recovery. |
Baby steps. Sounds like the drs are really keeping his progress going. Keeping you both in our thoughts and prayers. |
Update He still has pain..Dr. wants him up and moving. They took an x ray because he had some pain in the stomach on the side. He wasn't getting out of bed. Another dr. came in and told him he has to listen to his dr. and changed his meds from morphine to a non narcotic pain killer because the morphine slows the stomach down. They won't take out the NG tube till the stomach starts acting more normal. So a physical therapist is coming in too to help him get around. He has 3 incisions so I guess that's why a PT is helping too. The staff is so kind and helpful. They are really great. The dr. is great too (he's the chief of vascular surgery). I feel like he is making slow but steady progress considering it was such a large surgery. So please keep the prayers coming. You guys are the best. Thanks again!!!!!!!! Valerie |
Keeping the prayers going for your husband. |
more update Two steps forward, one step backward. NG Tube removed and stomach issues are improving. They took another x ray because he was having breathing problems and he has fluid in lungs. He's been sounding congested for last few days and won't or can't cough to get anything up. So Dr. thinks it would be good to go back to ICU where he will get more attention. We just came back from being there this morning and we'll go back later on. They haven't moved him yet. He is getting discouraged and I told him that he is making improvements, just that they are baby steps. It won't happen overnight. Please continue prayers. Thanks!! Valerie |
Valerie, I am keeping positive thoughts and prayers for your husband. Good to have doctors who are on top of things and if ICU is recommended, that's the best for him. I hope he won't get too discouraged and put his sights on this is the road to a full recovery. |
He is still in his room,no ICU. They gave him food tray today with broth, jello, juice and plain tea. So that is a big step forward. I just told him if he wants to get home soon, he has to get up and walk and sit up in the chair too. As he is moving around more, it is better. He's still congested and I think that when he starts walking around that it will help that too. They are giving him meds for the congestion. Hopefully, he will do more tomorrow. Thanks for your good thoughts. Valerie |
Great news praying he gets to come home soon |
Praying for a quick recovery! |
