Please send a healing thought to Ireland for me. Not even 3 months ago I got a phone call about an internet post. The poster was looking for me saying she was my younger half sister, from my Dad. I hadn't seen or heard from my Dad since leaving Ireland with my mom at 3 years old. We gad been told by a family member of his he died in 1984 shortly after we returned to America. Within 12 hours (after 15 years of looking from here) I was reconnected with my older 2 half siblings, and no less than 4 younger siblings...and found out my Dad was alive. I have spoken to him once on the phone, he was not in the best of health. Perhaps his health prompted the search for me. Tonight my younger sister living in Australian is taking a flight to Ireland as our Dad is in intensive care unable to breath on his own any longer. It's not a reality for me to travel there right now, we were hoping to go this comming summer after getting passports for the kids. Really hoping, kind of selfishly maybe, that he can pull through. I'm really contemplainting making flight arrangements for myself. Very mixed emotions but I think now I would like to meet him at least once, my two older children decided they both want to go meet him and all the family there. Anyways, I hope some of you can take a moment and send him some positive pull through it thoughts. Thanks, Shannon. |
Oh wow, I am so sorry to hear that your dad isn't well. I am definitely going to be praying for your father and for you as well. I can understand you thinking of making flight arrangements for yourself, because I think I would. Life is so short and we just never know..... Big Hugs and lots of prayers! Please keep us updated. |
Absolutely praying for his recovery.....at least until you can get there to meet him. It is a very Christian thing you have done to forgive him.....the kindness in your heart will surely be rewarded.... |
Seeing positive thoughts for your father. |
Sending prayers for your father and that you and your family get a chance to reconnect. |
Keeping your father in my thoughts and prayers... |
This must be very hard for you to be so far away. Sending positive thoughts for your father and you. |
I am sending prayers for you, your family and your reconnected family. I hope it all works out for you!!! |
Thank you everyone. Just got the message that prayers and positive thoughts seem to be working. Michael is stable now, concious and showing signs of improvement. It is looking like he'll pull through. I'll be calling the hospital where he is tonight due to the time difference. Apparently he will remain on oxygen as he has COPD & has had asthma since his youth, the hospitals there are nonsmoking like here so hopefully this will aid him quitting and his overall health. I can't help but wonder if there's another underlying condition I've not been told of, being sent pics of him he appears to have lost half his body weight in the last year. 2 of his other children are traveling to be with him, the others are by his side already. |
prayers for his continued improvement and also prayers you do get to meet him one day. |
Oh and I just found out my passport is virtually useless! I have to get a new one which will take less time than the kids' but I don't want to just hop a flight relying on undocumented dual citizenship and have homeland security hold ups. Anyone a dual citizen of American & Ireland with experience traveling back and forth? |
My sister has dual, English and Canadian...she was born in England and is a Canadian citizen...she has never had a problem. Sending prayers for your fathers' continued recovery, and that you will get the chance to reconnect. |
I will keep him in my prayers. |
Just saw your thread and am praying for your Dad and your children's grandfather to be able to respond positively to treatment and possibly find a new lease on life from his far-flung family. If he does keep improving, that might be some reunion in Ireland! |
Got a phone call. Apparently the cause was a respitory infection that caused a stroke. He reacted somewhat disoriented and agressively during the stroke pulling tubes out, so he was heavily sedated and is being given antibiotics in his IV. He will remain on oxygen in a portable tank, along with his nebulizer and apparently he takes manu meds, he also has rhumatiod arthritis. They will stop sedation tomorrow after his body has rested enough to reevaluate his condition. It was so nice to get a call from two siblings. I had to ask them to speak slowly...the accents I'm afraid along with different meanings for words caused some translation complications. |
