Fatso the Cat Needs Good Thoughts
 

I got home from work today and Fatso was just laying on the floor, and he is normally a little lazy but it's out of character for him to lay on the floor to nap due to an over-excited pup being in his face.
So, after putting my things down I walk over to him to ask him whats wrong, he just made a sad little squeak/meow noise. :( I try to get him to get up by offering him treats that usually send him running to find me, but he didn't even budge. I then decided something must be seriously wrong with him.
I did an overall check, touched his feet, moved his legs around, looked at his gums (a little lighter than normal) but overall he seemed to not be in pain. Then I put a little pressure on his stomach and he made his "don't do that again" noise. I picked him up to move him to the couch where he could be away from Rizzo and he made his bath-time meow :cry:
I called my vet, to let her know we were coming in but after telling her his symptoms she said he may have ate something that may not be agreeing with his stomach or he has an excessively large hairball. She told me to offer him some water (which he accepted) and no food for the night. She want's to see him first thing in the morning unless he is well again when I wake up. She assured me that this isn't an emergency and I should give it a little time since the symptoms didn't start until after noon (I was home during lunch and he was fine) and because I don't keep things in the house in available spots that are toxic to dogs/cats. She did tell me if he dehydrates or gets worse like showing obvious signs of pain to go strait to the emergency Vet, but she doesn't think it's likely that will happen.
I'm hoping it's just a hairball that needs time to pass through, or really bad gas, but I can't help but to worry. I called my bf who told me to calm down that I should listen to my vet and I'm trying, I trust her. I just don't like my fur-babies to be in any kind of pain.
Please, send your special thoughts or prayers, whichever you prefer, that this is something minor that will be cleared up by morning. Or a simple fix that my vet will be able to complete same day. The less time he's uncomfortable the happier we are.

Sure will be praying that Fatso is feeling all better soon. I hate to see or hear of a sick animal. With no way to speak and tell us what is wrong, they can only rely on us to interpret their behavior and seek help for them as you are doing. Hope he just ate too much or got a little virus and is back on his cat feet again in no time.

I've been there - my Emily had really fluffy hair and when she and Amanda groomed each other, Amanda swallowed prodigious amounts of hair. She had to be hospitalized once on IVs while they helped her pass a giant hairball. After that she had to have a dose of hairball remedy every day. Hope your cat's problem turns out to be that easy to solve.

Do you know if he has passed urine ? I can't believe your vet would tell you it's not an emergency with pain anywhere in the belly or abdomen. Your kitty could be blocked with stones & if this is the case it is Absolutely an Emergency. You need to watch & see if he is urinating & if not , Do Not Wait till tomorrow, get him in ASAP. If he has a blockage from stones & you wait till tomorrow he may not make it .

I will certainly keep Fatso in my thoughts and prayers. I hope he is much better by now.

He did pee during the night, and he is currently with a different vet that is equipped for emergencies. I'm pretty furious with my regular vet as I drove 45 mins to get to her this morning just for her to charge me a wellness visit and then send me to another vet that is only 10 mins from my house.
This other vet seems very experienced and after a thorough physical exam he doesn't think there is any sort of blockage...he checked his temp and Fatso doesn't have a fever, and he has localized the pain to his back. He initially offered just giving him some pain meds to see if he'll just get better after a couple days because Fatso can walk he just doesn't want to. But after seeing how much pain he is in he recommended that we do an x-ray (though I was going to ask for one anyway).
Unfortunately the vet is really busy today since his clinic also deals with emergency visits and there have been quite a few dropped off this morning so he's going to keep Fatso there for the day. He's running some blood tests and is going to shoot him up with some pain killers to make him more comfortable. If any other tests need to be done he's going to call me right away, but he's sure that if nothing shows on the x-ray and the blood results come back normal that it's just a muscle strain or something similar. So now I have to wait and wait until 430 to go pick him up and it's killing me, I'm so stressed out my stomach is killing me :(
I'm definetly dumping my regular vet after this, I really should have taken him in last night and I feel like crap for listening to her.

I am sorry that your regular vet did that to you. I would be pretty mad too!

P.S. He is a really good looking dude! My kitty Suki thinks he is a stud muffin.

I don't blame you for being mad at that vet. Thank God you got sweet Fatso to a vet who cares and is helping. And thank you for doing the right thing by your baby in a timely manner.

Kitties are such jumpers and athletic little messes - maybe he just took one jump too high. Maybe he's just strained his back or hip and a muscle relaxer, a trigger-point injection and some pain meds will fix him right up. I hope he rests well tonight and tomorrow gets a good diagnosis, treatment and sent home with a good prognosis.

I, too, must remark on this little gentleman's feline good looks. He's a keeper!!!

I'd be angry at that vet, too. I hope you get good news about your kitty.

Okay, sorry I meant to update last night but it was a rough one for the both of us. My stomach was in such a state that I almost fainted at the vets office.
The x-ray came back normal, and I'm still waiting for the total bloodwork to come back, the vet noticed immediately that his red blood cell count was pretty low. He gave me some meds for that, and some anti-inflammitory meds but he is starting to think he may just be a little anemic. Still waiting for the blood results to come back from the lab though. Fatso is doing a lot better this morning, still drained of energy but he got up when I woke up and did the kitty rub on my legs. And he went back to his kitty bed and went back to sleep, but he is making a little progress. He's back to eating his hard food and using his litter box normal again.
This vet is amazing, he made sure to explain every little detail and gave me advice for what I should do. Plus he said I can bring Fatso back within 48 hours for a free re-check. I'll only be charged if he has to run more tests, but for a wellness check he said it's free. SO then I got a little nervous thinking "how much is this costing me that I get a free follow up?" but it was only 200 euro, roughly $260 (give or take) and I got 2 xrays, the health check, blood work, and his meds. Not to mention the cell phone number for the vet in case anything new comes up, or if I have any questions at all.
Thanks guys for all the good thoughts, and nice comments. He is my big hansome kitty and I'm glad he's doing better. Slightly, but definetly better :) I think any progress is good progress.
