Please keep my daughter in your prayers.
 
My 24 year old dtr has been having problems with her knees swelling up, filling with fluid and making it very difficult to walk. She has been going to a bone and joint doctor for a year now and he told us last month that there was nothing more he could do as it wasn't structural in nature but most likely rheumatoid and she needed to go back to the rheumatologist. This week her elbow swelled up and she couldn't bend it. She has not been at her job very long and it is a small office. She has no time off so she didn't want to ask for time to go to another doctor. I finally insisted and we went the other da on her lunch hour. She was diagnosed with active inflammatory arthritis. I am just sick over it. She is so young to have this. She is on a prescription anti inflammatory until her blood work comes back. Once they verify her liver is ok she has to go on a very strong arthritis medicine. The possible side effects are pretty scary. She has to take folic acid every day as well. She has to go in every 4 weeks for blood work and to see the doctor. Please keep her in your prayers that it will go into remission and the drugs will help not hurt her. Thanks

Oh Patti, she's so young. I'm praying for her, and for her doctors to be able to find the right treatment for her.

Im very sorry about your daughter patti, I will be praying for her, My daughter is only 27 and disabled due to a degenitive disc disease its so hard for us mothers to watch our kids in such pain :( I hope the meds help her :heart to

Hi Patti...gosh, you just need some good things to happen...it's been one thing after another. *HUG* I am praying for Jessie and also you...and will continue to do so. I know how sick with worry you've been and I feel so bad. I will pray that she be helped with the meds and that she goes into remission...now and forever. I'm praying for a total and full healing.

I had this happen to me several weeks back. Kept getting pain in one shoulder then the other, back and forth until I could not move my shoulder even a fraction of an inch. Worst pain I have ever had in my life. The anti-inflammatories did little for me, but they did put me on medrol (steroid) which was amazing. Did her doctor put her on that for her elbow? I know the anti-inflammatories are standard for arthritis, but the steriod works well for more immediate relief.
I'm very sorry she is going through this, esp. at such a young age. My thoughts are with her.

I'm very sorry she is going through this, esp. at such a young age. My thoughts are with her.
Thanks. Her doctor was debating whether to put her on a low does of steroids or just give her a shot of cortisone in her elbow. She decided on the shot in the elbow. Which helped her elbow but her rt knee is still stiff and swollen. I think it would have been better if she had given her the low dose steroids. The Anti inflammatory doesn't seem to be helping yet. She starts the rheumatoid medicine later this week. Thanks for sharing your experience. Hope your shoulder is better now. Do you have this happen a lot?

It just started about 5 months ago in my shoulders. I have had problems for years in my hips, but my endocrinologist put me on vitamin D and that pain and stiffness are gone (but of course having problems in other joints now). Might have her vit D levels checked. Sounds funky, but I am on arthritis forums and it really does help some people. I take 50,000 units twice a month (prescription strength). You can do a search on it - vitamin d + arthritis.
I have not yet been diagnosed with Rheum. arthritis, my general doctor decided not to refer me to a specialist yet, but I have been having the pain/stiffness and had a high positive on an RA test and family history. I will ask my endocrinologist about it next month when I see him. My regular doctor is the type that wants to handle everything and be in control of all meds I take (?).

Thanks. It's funny you mention the Vitamin D back in the winter she wasn't feeling well, flu or something and went to one of those Take Care clinics and they told her to Take Vitamin D to help her immune system. It's sitting here on the table so I am going to have her start taking it again. Thanks for that info. She to tested high positive for RA. I hope yours clears up.
