Prayes For Squeeker
 

I'd like to ask if you could all remember Squeeker in your prayers, she's a stray cat we've been caring for/for the last year. When we started caring for her, she was so skinny you could see the bones in her body, but through out the summer and fall, we managed to gain her trust and companionship and were able to get some very much needed meat on her bones and finally got to where she'd let us pet her. She had a very bad infection in her eye so I called my vet and explained the situation and he was kind enough to prescribe antibiotics for her without seeing her in the office. Although she lets us pet her, she WILL NOT let us put her into a crate to get her to the vet, and the vet said a lot of times, doing that to a ferrel or stray will cause them to go into shock. We got her eyes cleared up and made a water proof home for her under our elevated front porch, she made it through the winter by the grace of God. Come spring, she was doing great till someone shot her with a bow and arrow or someone grazed her with a bullet. Again, tried getting her into a crate to get her to the vet, but she wasn't having it, my heart broke and I cried for her. I called the vet again, got more antibiotics and went out daily and cleaned her wound, by the grace of God, she healed up. Two weeks ago as I was taking fresh food and water out to her, I noticed a lump on the side of her face just below her ear, tried getting her into the crate, but once again, it was a no go. So, I kept my eye on the lump for a few days and finally it started seeping. I called the vet, explained the situation and he prescribed antibiotics for me to give to her. I go out twice a day and Squeeker lets me push all the puss out of the abcess (sp) (I think that's what it is) and I clean it up real good and put antibiotic ointment on it. She's such a god girl and our family has really grown to love her so much, we worry about her living outside but I know she'd never let us keep her in our house, so, we keep a clean warm bed for her made up under our porch and make sure she has food and water available daily. if you all could please keep Squeeker in your prayers and pray that the abcess (sp) or whatever it is on the side of her face heals up and goes away, my family and I would greatly appreciate it. I don't know what's happened to her in life, but she isn't able to meow, she tries but it only comes out as a squeek, that's why I named her Squeeker. Your prayers are very much appreciated.

Thanks so much, I appreciate it. I just want her to be ok and be as healthy as she can be. She doesn't bother anyone, stays right here in our yard most of the time aside from going out in the woods a few times a day to potty I think. Made me so mad when someone shot her, you could see all the way down to the bone!:( Thank God she healed from that. No she's going through this, it breaks my heart and I worry about her so much.

I know exactly what you are saying about feral cats. We have many of them around our home and I put out food for them. Are you sure your cat is a female? If she is then it would be wise to catch her and take her to a vet that spays feral cats otherwise you will end up like us and have cats everywhere. The cats are great for keeping down the snake, mouse and rat population. Outside cats are bad about getting into cat fights and that could very well be what caused her abscess. Our Momma Kitty was dropped off here about 6 years ago and she is the only one out of the bunch that I can pet but she does not like being held. I will pray for your baby and hope that she continues to heal.

Yes, she's female, I've checked her. Believe me, if she'd let me get her into the crate so I could take her to the vet, I'd do it, the last thing I want is for her to have a litter of kittens, that'd just break my heart. I'm actually wondering if she's already spayed though, there's a lot of other cats running around back in our woods and in the whole year we've been caring for Squeeker, she's never had a litter. Keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't either. It's taken a whole year for her to let me pick her up, but boy soon as she sees the crate, she runs! I spoke with the vet this morning to see if there was anything else I could do for her abscess since since she won't let me put her in a crate and get he to him, he said pretty much all I can do is what I'm doing. He said the antibiotics will work from the inside out, and then me keeping it clean and keeping triple antibiotic ointment on it will also help it, but I need to make sure it stays open. There's only a pin whole there where she's either scratched it open or something else did, so when it gets dried, I moisten a gauze pad and keep whipping it till it starts oozing again and then I squeeze out all I can. She's really good about letting me do this surprisingly, it's got to hurt her, but she lets me do it. I just wished she's let me get her into the crate and take her to the vet to get it lanced open so it can drain and heal properly.

Thank you Joanne, I really appreciate that. We're very fortunate to have such an understanding vet, a lot of vets wouldn't prescribe any meds without seeing the animal first, without our vet being so understanding, Squeeker would be in a world of trouble.

The reason I had asked about her possibly being a him is because a lot of people do not realize that cats do not have the same type of anatomy as a dog and some people don't now how to tell the difference between male and female in cats. I have trapped cats before by just by putting dry food in the crate and when they go inside to eat I just close the door real fast. It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job treating her so hopefully she will heal soon.

I just love cats and be assured Squeeker will be in my prayers. You have a big heart.

Ya, I've tried doing that with food, even used canned tuna, salmon, milk, you name it, she aint having no part of that crate. I think she's an older cat and is pretty wise to the fact that once she's in that crate, the door will be shut. I even tried tossing a blanket over her before and getting her that way and then putting her into the crate, but, nope, I got clawed and she got away. It took a few months for her to even go into the box we made for her to sleep in and be out of the elements. I just wished she'd let me help her more. I wouldn't hurt her for anything in this world, we've all grown to love her.

Squeeker certainly has my prayers. She's so lucky she found her way to your house. Her guardian Angel must have been guiding her all the way. Sounds like she is in the best hands she can be without climbing into that crate and going to the vet. You are doing an awesome job with her.

Thank you for the prayers for Squeeker, it's very much appreciated. I still wished she'd just let me put her in the crate though and take her to the vet. I even set up one of our BIG extra dog kennels outside on our back porch and set food in there hoping she'd go in it and I could hurry and close the door, but nope, that didn't work either. Maybe this is a blessing in dusguise (sp) maybe she's one of those that WOULD go into shock if I actually got her into a crate and took her into the vet? I'd feel awful then. I just want her better....

How is Squeeker doing? It sounds like you have won her over. I pray that the wound heals and she settles down for you. The poor sweet thing. You are a wonderful person for taking care of her the way you do.

Awe, thanks so much Bobbi. The abscess seems to be getting smaller. The vet said I need to keep it open but the hole that was in it closed, so, I had gotten a needle syringe from the pharmacy and open it back up daily with that and drain all the gunk out of it. She's such a good girl to sit there and let me do it. It seems to be getting smaller though and the hair looks like its starting to grow back in. She's still on antibiotics I got from the vet plus I go out ad clean it and drain it a few times a day. Hopefully it heals up completely very soon. I love her to pieces, she's such a good girl, just won't go in a crate for anything.

You are doing everything you can to help her. I am glad to hear that it is starting to heal. I wish we could have cats again.. I have always loved them.. With my Asthma, I can't have them any more. So please give Squeeker an extra love for me. :)

Prayers for your kitty are on the way. It's so kind of you to take care of her. Maybe if you got a bigger crate, and put it under the porch with blankies in it. Maybe she'll get use to going in it.

Well that'd be an idea except I can't get a bigger crate under the porch, it isn't tall enough to put a bigger one under there.

How is Squeeker doing today? Hope that spot is open and drained so it can finish healing.

Hi Bobbi, Squeekers doing good today, or I should say yesterday rather. I'm getting ready to go outside now and feed her and clean the abscess, but when I cleaned it last night, it looked good. Still has stuff in it but it's getting smaller and smaller, doesn't seem to fill up as fast or far as it was before, that's a good sign.

I am so glad. You are doing such a good job. Give Squeekers a hug for me.

Thank you so much Bobbi, & I sure will. I worked on her again today and actually got a lot more of the gunk out. It doesn't look infected anymore, it actually just looked like old blood. Before when I would put the syringe in it to open and drain it, I'd only make one hole and squeeze the stuff out, all I could get anyhow. But today, after I drained out all I could get out, a part of it looked pretty full still, so, I put the syringe in it again and more stuff came out. I think maybe it was a bit blocked off in that area and putting the syringe in that area was a good idea cause after I got all that stuff out, you couldn't even really see any swelling or anything there. So, I'm hoping it'll be all cleared up very soon. It was al nice and flat early in the evening and then I cleaned it all up really good and put triple antibiotic ointment back on it. She's such a good girl, she just lays there and lets me do it. If anyone else comes up while I'm working on her though, she runs, so, I just go out throughout the day and set on the swing and she climbs up beside me and lays on her side and lets me work on her. The hair is starting to grow back in that area to, it had fallen out on it's own when it was real bad infected. I'm gonna call the vet tomorrow and let them know what I've been doing and how she's coming along and see if they think I should get another round of antibiotics from them to keep her on until it's completely gone.

The extra antibiotics would be a good thing. She should probably stay on them until it is all cleared up and there is no infection at all. It would be a shame to have done all that and then have it mess up again. You are such an angel for helping her. Hugs to you.. keep up the good work.

She just finished up her last dose the night before last, the vet had me giving t to her twice a day, 1/4 of a teaspoon. She's always been so god about taking the antibiotics, good thing to, cause she's got the biggest teeth I've ever seen a cat have and I surely wouldn't wanna have to try and pick her up and hold her and force them down her. I'm sure he'll probably have me come in and pick up another round for her, I'd be so upset if it stopped healing and got bad again.
