My new Yorkie Puppy I just bought a Yorkie Male puppy, he is 11 weeks old, and I work during the day. I kennel him during the day and at night, his crying is really bad. Is this normal? Don't know what I should do? |
It is normal for them to cry. Yorkies love to be with people period. I would try maybe a puppy kong with treats stuffed in it. Play some music or turn on the TV so he doesn't feel so alone. One of my friends used one of those bears that has a heart beat sound to keep her pup company. Do a search on Kennel training you will find a wealth of info...and many different ideas and hopefully one will work for your pup. Congratulations! |
aww poor baby, so you kennel him @ home? Why not leave a radio or tv on for him so he is not so lonely? Maybe even a clothing article with your scent to give him comfort? |
Do have to kennel him during the day? Perhaps you could block off a larger area with a baby gate or an x pen, so he isn't confined to such a small area. then leave his bed and toys and food and a pee pad. Ollie cried at night too when she was crated. She cried loud and frequently. I finally took the door off of the crate and blocked off the laundry area so she had more space. She sleeps in the crate, with the door off, her food and pee pad are in the area also. Welcome to YT. You will get lots of different suggestions. Try different ones until you find one that works for you. |
My New Yorkie Puppy Thank you everyone for responding. I was told by the vet to crate him during the day because I work. I tried not to crate him and let him run free in the kitchen with a baby gate blocking it off. He cried just the same! I have lots of things in his crate, baby blanket, and toys. I do leave the radio on for him. I even have an older dog Muffy that sleeps beside his crate. Still Chip just yelps and yelps. |

Oh,,,well in that case maybe he is just missing his momma. Give him some more time too...he's a baby. |
He's just a little baby! Quote:
Can you go home for lunch or do you have anyone who can go visit him during the day for some play time? At least that would break the day up for him so he wouldn't be so lonely! And I have a question: if you are not there, how do you know he is crying all day? :p  |
he porb also wants to be playing with the other dog... mine are like that sometimes, |
It's normal. Takes a while for them to get use to it but eventually they'll realize that you're not going to give in to the whining and they'll settle down. |
Congrats on your new baby, and welcome to yorkietalk! It will get better with time and everyone gave you some good advice! |
Hello and welcome to YT. :wavey: :wavey: Just give it sometime . . he'll soon realize this is going to be routine for him. I crate my Tiger during the day as well but don't recall having any barking problems. He stays in his crate for 7 hours and then I come home to play with him and walk him for an hour. He goes back to his crate while I go back to work . . . then come home after a couple of hours. During my absence, my TV is on channel Nichelodian :D He has been soooo good and not once soiled his crate . . . . I have been doing those for about over 3 months and works well for me. Because he is confined pretty much throughout the day, I make sure he roams freely while I am home. Just for my peace of mind, he wears a belly band while he rompers all over my living/dining/kitchen area . . .trying to find what he can chew on   . . and voila, he sees my plant and goes for it . . . I am still working on that problem. :scratchhe :scratchhe |
aweeee poor baby needs some attention. he misses you |
I keep all six of my dogs in their crates in my bedroom with me at night. When they were pups I would keep them right next to my bed and if they cried I could just lower my hand to them and comfort them. Good luck. |
