Can you recommend an Oklahoma breeder? Hey all you Okies with Yorkies! Can you recommend a good breeder who sells puppies within 100 miles of Tulsa? |

I'm not sure if Broken Bow is within 100 miles of you, but that's where we got our Chloe. The name of the place is D & S Kennel and their website is Home. At first I was a little nervous about purchasing a dog from them because they sell three different breeds, but it is almost impossible to find the "ideal" breeder in this area...trust me, I looked for about eight months. So my husband and I drove down to visit anyway because we just couldn't find any other breeders in Oklahoma that were (a)within our price range and (b)didn't advertise "teacups". (We were looking for a dog that would be at least over 5 lbs grown.) Douglas and Sharon turned out to be two very sweet and knowledgeable people! Everything was clean, no bad smells or flies in the kennel and all the dogs seemed very excited and healthy. Douglas encouraged us to check Chloe over, let her run around, etc. He explained in detail about her medical history and what to expect when we got home. She was an only puppy so we didn't get to see her with litter mates, but we got to meet both her parents as well as several of the other dogs they had. Sharon was also very insistent that we contact them if we had any questions at all and they sent us home with a bag of Royal Canin, a tube of Nutrical, follow-up wormer meds, and an anti-diarrhea med for just in case! We've now had Chloe for two and a half months, and the vet says she's very healthy. She's got a good heart, her teeth are coming in great, we've never had a case of hypoglycemia. Sorry for the length, but I remember how hard it was for me to find a breeder here in the great state of Oklahoma. The perfect breeder that I had my heart set on (in Miami, OK) got out of the business about a month before we were ready to adopt. -C |

My breeder retired earlier this year, and she's the only one I've ever dealt with. Good luck on your search! |

Thanks Cirlonde! I've just been researching for about a month. Sounds like your experience was similar to mine now. My vet gave me the names of 3 in Oklahoma based on client recommendations. Two of them aren't breeding right now. One might start again next year. That would be OK. I'm not in a hurry. But it would be a new line, etc., and is only a "might." The third is Dillinger's State Line Kennel, which I undertand has several breeds, but some people on Yorkie Talk had good things to say about the kennel. I contacted a couple of the outstanding breeders in Oklahoma. One never replied. The other couldn't help me. (I can understand their being picky about who they let adopt their puppies--they must almost be like their children. There are very few people I trust to even pet sit for me!) So, it's no wonder there is so much demand for puppies--and the puppy mills are happy to supply puppies to satisfy that demand. This is sad. If there were more reputable breeders who loved the breed, some of that demand would be satisfied with healthy puppies, and there'd be less business for the puppy mills. (I think I'll preach!) I've concluded that Oklahoma needs more people to become serious, devoted, educated, "reputable" breeders. Thanks again for the lead in Broken Arrow! |

Thanks BonBon! Murphy and Chelsea are precious! (I like the captions to the pics in your album. lol) Too bad your breeder retired. (Maybe I should find a retired breeder to take me under her wings and teach me to breed Yorkies.) |

 Aww, thank you! |

Chloe D & S Kennel looks promising, especially if they have more puppies like Chloe! She is beautiful! I'd be very happy to have a puppy like that! Thanks again Cirlonde. |

Although you do have a few really good reputable breeders there in Oklahoma ,unfortunately, there are many puppy mills and bad backyard breeders I suggest you contact someone with the Oklahoma City Yorkshire Terrier Club for a breeder referral or go to the YTCA website. Can't be to cautious! |
