I live in Austin, Texas, now but I grew up in El Paso, Texas. I spent most of my weekends going to our cabin in Alto, NM, or wherever else we felt like driving to growing up. If there is grass in El Paso which is straight desert, I promise you will find grass in NM. There will be more zeroscaping (landscaping with rocks and cactus instead of grass and bushes) but you will still find people who hold out and grow grass. Where in NM are you moving? |
I live in Lubbock Texas which is not that far from New Mexico and I know lots of people that have cattle ranches up there and there is grass, It may just depened on where in NM that you live but there is lotsof places with grass. Good Luck with the move. Tess |

New Mexico` I lived in the 4-corners in Aztec, Farmington, we were 45-minutes from Durango Colorado. And yes they don't have grass. Where I lived they put down rocks.(?) its very desert like. It had the seasons. I loved it there but it was too far away from family. We lived there for 8-years We are back in Texas. My kids are still there. Hope this helps Cheryl/Jack/Bella/some day a biewer:animal-pa |

Hi moving to new mexico, I live in el paso but I visit Albuquerque every 6 months because Trinket has a dry eye and their is an opthamologist in Albuquerque that is just great. It is harder to grow grass on the mountain than in the valley but the dogs adapt quickly to zerocape. In el Paso I live on the mountain and in my back yard there is only rock but we have no fleas or ticks and I consider that a good trade off. I might also mention that if you want grass it is available at a cost....water, fertilizer, mowing, etc. Allow for some time of adjustment but I think you will enjoy the location. It is a nice city. |

If you have any vet suggestions in the area I am open to suggestions. The worst part of moving will be finding new doctors, vets, someone to cut my hair etc etc!! |
new mexico newcomer I can't really help you much with vets, physicans or beauticians, only where the cassinos, and Trinkets opthamologhist are located. Shopping is pretty good there. I always enjoy our trips to Albuequerque. |
another newbie to New Mexico... About 3 weeks ago we moved to Albuquerque from Marylands Eastern Shore and absolutely love it here! The "no grass" is not a big deal and actually I prefer to stay on un-vegetated places with the fur butts b/c of the stickers... Last weekend we were up on Sandia Peak with the tram... what a treat! |
Hi Mitzi's mom and welcome! We spent last week-end in Albuequierque and love to make that little journey. We have 2 dogs and both have eye problems. We had to take the boxer to the eye clinic last Friday. Trinket goes back in a year, but the Boxer has to go back in 6 months. I'll bet we are back long before that because we enjoy the journey and love the city. We are so glad that you find it a nice place to land. If you get to El Paso let us know. We would love to show you around. |

Good Vets I personally don't know any Vets in Albuquerque but I would call the EyeCare For Animals and ask there for information. I would hope you would find someone there helpful. You might tell them that Trinket (name of my Yorkie) from El Paso is a patient of Dr. Kennard. They know us well!!! Their number is 505-292-3600. Hope this helps. |
Anybody in Alamogordo,NM? |
Locatin, location We are in El Paso. Not exactly NM but fairly close. We are about 35 minutes from Las Cruses. Are you Military? Where are you from and how long have you been in alamagordo? If there is anything we can assist you with don't hesitate to let us know. Sally |
My daughter lives in Albuerqerque and I just got back from visiting her. All the houses in her neighborhood had gorgeous green grassy front lawns. Granted they very small lawns and had sprinkler systems to keep them green. I took early morning walks and all the sprinklers were on. About a mile from her home was a beautiful park with green grass. There's grass in New Mexico you just have to work at it to keep it. Hopefully you'll be able to find a place that has the grass. |
I am a native New Mexican and we do have lots of grass. Most of NM has watering restrictions on types of grass that require a lot of water but we are by no means "grassless". Lots of pet friendly parks. I have been to most of the states in the USA including Alaska and Hawaii and I would never consider living anywhere else. So much variety here you never get bored with the same landscape view. Albuquerque is high desert (well over 5,000' downtown and close to 6500' in the far northeast heights) with cooler nights, low humidity, 4 seasons, etc. A bazillion places to visit especially if you like outdoors, hiking, biking, miles of trails, longest tram in the world, surrounded by wonders such as El Malpais National Park, lots of Indian pueblos, ancient cultures, museums, etc. You will love it!!
