Help finding a yorkie puppy?
 
Hello all :)
I'm new to yorkie talk and don't own a yorkie yet. I have one toy schnauzer. I live in Austin, Texas and am looking for a yorkie of my own :) In particular, I'm looking for a teacup baby to pamper. What's frustrating me to no end is that the only thing that stands between me and a precious furbaby is money. If anyone has affordable tinies available in Texas or can direct to one/help me find one, please post or e-mail me at lilyluvrcea@sbcglobal.net.

Hi and welcome to YT! Good Luck in your puppy search, but please research this breed more. There is no such thing as a teacup yorkie. There is only one yorkie, a toy breed dog, that should be no larger than 7lbs according to the standard. You'll see ones on the smaller side and some larger than 7lbs..but they are all just yorkies. "Teacup" is a made-up term used by unethical breeders to make more money off of people that don't know any better. It's a scam. Please research and buy from a reputable breeder.

Oh, I've heard that before, but thank you. I would never buy from an unethical breeder. I have an aunt who has the most precious, well-behaved, and healthy teacup-sized yorkie. I heard from her the breeder was wonderful (e.g. answered all her questions, sent home a puppy package, etc.). But, my point is that while
'teacup' is a made up term, the good breeders would only use it to describe the puppy's and the parent's size.

No breeder should be using the term "teacup" period. It is against the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America's code of ethics to use "teacup" to describe a yorkshire terrier. I have friends with 3lb yorkies...they are just yorkies on the smaller side of the standard. It's important to remember too that the tiny ones you must be much more cautious with...responsible breeders will strive to breed yorkies in the 4-7lb range. They may get a smaller one, but they don't intentionally breed for it.

I totally agree with this! But I am one of those people who has a small yorkie, and I got her from a good breeder here in Austin. I love her, but if a breeder is advertising "teacups" run the other way!!!! Please for your sake and mine. I looked for EVER (literally) for CoCo and I went to some pretty grungy places here in Austin and the dogs were pitiful! But after about a year and a half of looking and searching, I ended up finding an amazing woman here that bread yorkies, and fell in love with CoCo. CoCo is now a year and a half old and weighs 3 1/2 lbs. Her parents were both 4 1/2 and 5 lbs. But she was just small because it was a 5 puppy litter. Anyways she has an awesome personality, and is amazing in every way. She gets along with other dogs, and is way cute! But anyways if you are still looking in the austin area let me know and I can maybe connect you to my breeder. My parents fell in love with her that I had to go back to her and buy my mom one from another litter of hers. So my mom now has a yorkie too named Chloe!

Thank you all! I haven't seen any breeders in Austin unfortunately. I will definetely be careful when looking at puppies. When I was searching for my schnauzer I called this HORRIBLE mill and it when I asked about the sizes all I got was "One's a little big, and the other's smaller." When we asked about the health, he said that "I could take the puppy to to vet if I found anything wrong". I could already tell what I would find when I looked there, adn hung up right then. Again, thanks! :)

I highly recommend calling one of these breeders that are members of the YTCA. There are a few in the Austin area and several in TX Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club

"good breeders" dont breed "teacup sized" Yorkies, so they should NEVER be using that term to describe "the PARENTS size"!!!! "Good breeders" KNOW that you do NOT get "teacup sized yorkies" by breeding little tiny undersized runts...size of the puppies is determined by the genetics BEHIND the breeding pair....."good breeders" know this. And besides, "teacup" is a relative term...what YOU call "teacup" may not be what I consider "teacup"(runt)....you need to drop that term from your vocabulary and instead learn what size dog you want, and use that to describe what you are wanting. I am not trying to harrass you or split hairs....knowledge is power and when you are fluent in "Yorkie talk", you will be able to spot unethical breeders just by the way they speak and the terminology they use.

Have you checked the Austin American Statesman. I got both of my yorkies by looking in the paper. They were at a reasonable price and came from good homes, they are calm and learn quick.
