Hi. My girl has dry skin too.. it drives me NUTS.. but it doens't seem to bother her... i as well have bought all the "right" shampoos.. i think i have 3 different bottles.. they will last me her lifetime :P But i was talking to someone the other day who has a puppy as well (how old is yours.. layla is 5 1/2 months) and they said a lot of puppies have dry skin and they grow out of it.. layla's was a mess when we got her. but slowly it is going away.. hopefully you will see the same trend! |
I'm a firm believer in Vegetable or Olive oil. I have NEVER had a dog here that didn't get rid of flaking after I used it. It takes about a month to start seeing results. I just use a tiy bit once or twice a day mixed in their food. OH... pLus it seems to make the hair softer when growing in over the long haul:thumbup: |

LOL.. well to tell the truth mine gets a yucky beard EVERYTIME she eats ANYTHING. I just babywipe it clean after eating:p |
To combat dry skin, you need to be feeding a food that doesn't have corn in it. I would recommend Chicken Soup, Merricks, Solid Gold, or Canidae. Also, the vegetable or olive oil is also a great recommendation. My parents put this on their yorkie's food and she has not had dry skin since.   |

reply to person reguarding dry skin have you ever tried the product called Nova Pearls it is a deep moisturiser that you spray on every day if you want and it smells great! it really helps ! I get it from Pets Mart also bathing them in Fresh n clean - it is an oatmeal and baking soda shampoo and it has alot of moisurizing init too! I also put a tiny little bit of olive oil in science diet food but be on the watch because some pups that stay indoors and use pads will eat their poops because of the oil I think it must make them smell good or something yuck!!!! try and see good luck bas1:thumbs_up :questione :yorkietal :idontknow |
have you tried a hot oil treatment? I warm jojoba oil mixed with carrot oil a ziploc baggie in some warm water, i apply to wet coat (before shampooing) i let it sit on coat for 1-3 min. depending on how dry the skin is and then i shampoo out i do this once a week |
I believe that the answer to dry skin is related to the kibbles that your yorkie is eating. My Alyssa had extremely dry skin and a lot of allergies. She was eating Royal Canin Yorkshire Food. I changed her to Canidae on April l3th of this year. After less than a week on the new food her skin stopped itching and she stopped scratching. Her fur took on a healthy look and her energy level doubled. She loves the Canidae and I love what it has done to improve her allergies and her shiny fur. She looks like a different dog. |
