Stimulating new pups to void My Meggie had two pups last night by c-section. Meggie is letting them nurse, she is staying with them. But is not licking or stimulating them. I stimulated them this afternoon and they each peed a puddle. How often should I stimulate and for how long? Have never had this happen before. Please, advise. Thanks, :aimeeyork Barbg |
well, Congratulations on the new litter. How old was the mom? Also, since she had a c-section, could be that she doesn't recognize that the puppies are hers? Is this her first litter, sometimes first time moms may take a couple of days for the mother instinct to come out. I would stimulate them every 3-4 hours...immediately after they nurse. Their bladders are so small and it's painful to them if since they can't relieve themselves. |
Kimberly, Thank You, for the advise. Meggie, is almost 1 year old and this is her first litter. All are doing great. Hope her motherly instint kicks in soon. Barb |

She seems to be a little too young to be bred and could be that her maturity level isn't there, too. |
