Moving to FL Hi - I'm considering a job offer to move from my UK company to the parent in Miami. If I do, then I'm going to bring my baby with me, who is a 20 month old yorkie :) I just wonder, what kind of life she would have in FL - is it dog friendly? Look forward to your insights. :D |
Miami is especially dog friendly...or so I've heard, More so than other areas of FL such as Orlando where I live. |
Miami is very dog friendly, she will have so much fun there! :) We are getting ready to do just the opposite and move to the UK. lol After I manage to get my babies there can you tell me how dog friendly it is there for them? :O) |
I agree with the other posters. Miami is very dog friendly! Good luck on your move! |

myteddybear - it's not everso dog friendly here. We are quite well known in our area and so we are tolerated :) But our boo goes everywhere with my DH, he is a pilot and motorcyclist so he spends his time at the airfield and in motorbike shops or the local pub - all of which buy in approved snacks for her going there. You will find dog friendly pubs (not restaurants) here...but they will usually only allow dogs in the bar area. Across the water 20 miles and in France you can take your dog pretty much anywhere - including restaurants. Thanks for the other info - I hope we find a bar or similar to accept her (just outside :) I have a dream of drinking cocktails by the beach and having her with us. We are looking at apartments (they are dog friendly) but I am thinking we may need doggy day care if DH can't take her to his job at the airport....I know for sure I can;t take her with me. How do they do in the summer when it must be really hot - I'm a bit scared myself?! Anyway - still waiting on a final offer to make the move...so finders crossed! |
You will love South florida...it's almost impossible to go anywhere on South beach without seeing a string of dogs at every corner! I live in northern Florida now, which is not as dog friendly! |

Thanks for your replies...so discussions are getting more serious now. I'm curious...are there doggy day care facilities in Miami (anyone know any near W Flagler St)? Also, we are thinking about when we are there, we will maybe want to take holiday elsewhere in the US - can you travel freely? Are there dog friendly hotels in most places? Also, has anyone made the flight UK to Miami with a dog? Anyone any impartial info on the Miami lakes area from a residential perspective?? Thanks so much! |
Yes, you can travel freely anywhere in the United States and there are many "must see" places to visit. What ever you do in your flight from there to here, make sure your baby travels in the cabin with YOU. Too many delays or issues can happen if he is shipped. Also check with customs about him and post something in the General Forum with a title about TRAVEL from there to here, that way the title will catch the eye of people who have experience in that area. Also the same for each of the questions, put them as a TITLE to get specific info. Otherwise the exposure may not be greatest from those that have personal experiences with your concerns. I only joined YT this year so I am limited in my experience with it but I hope what I have suggested with help you get the answers you are seeking. Mary in Melbourne, FL |
And yes, there are lots of dog friendly hotels. The internet is very helpful and there are lots of resources to put you in contact with dog friendly hotels. |
hi--- I have lived in Miami for the past 25 years. Yes, a lot of areas are very dog friendly!! There are several dog parks and many restaurants that have outside seating allow dogs. I go to a yorkie meet up-- and I know there are other groups. I know many condo and apartments allow dogs -- small under 20 lbs - I am not sure if you are going to buy or lease. The prices for houses/ condos are at a all time low. There are areas that are mostly Hispanic - there is a lot of diverse culture in Miami. And the weather will be, well, very very different! ;) If you need more info. about dogs, places to live etc.-- I would be glad to share --pm me anytime. What part of uk are you in? My brother was in Yorkshire several years, I visited when his son was born. |
That sounds awesome and as you can see by other posters it's a good place for fur babies |
I don't know if the OP has moved yet but I saw no warnings about alligators. |
Thanks - I will PM you :) I haven't moved yet, my company want me to spend 18 months longer in Europe, then I get to go to Miami. |
