Not so Nutered Hello! Hey guys, I have a huge question:confused: when it comes to getting your Yorkie fixed. I have a just about 1 year old Yorkie named :animal36Jackson and Jackson has gone bonkers marking everything so therefore we are sending him to the vet to have his surgery. My question is...exactly how long will it take his little body to realize and stop marking everything he comes across? Needless to say...will he stop humping my poor Lab/Retriever? I've never had a male dog before until now and those were just a few questions I need help on. If you can lend me your advice I would greatly appreciate it! Thank You!:animal-pa |
Every dog is different. When I got Baxter he had been neutered at close to a year of age. So marking and humping were becoming a part of his behavior. He has never marked inside the house and while he does once in awhile hump his favorite blue elmo bed, spayed girls will also do that. Once in a great while he will also hump Bear's head but that is strictly a domination thing, not a sexual thing. Do bear in mind that it takes awhile for the hormones to get out of their systems after the procedure, but in Baxter's case there was zero marking inside after surgery. |
The later you have him neutered, the longer the behavior has a chance to become established. Sometimes neutering doesn't stop marking. You will also need to go back to housetraining with him after his surgery. Try keeping him leashed to you whenever he is loose in the house and correcting him if he tries to mark. |
We got our first baby neutered at 8 months. He never really marked indoors, just outside. However, the humping started when he was REALLY young-six or seven weeks old (I know, I know--I didn't then-DO now!) and he continued for several weeks after neutering. Now the only time he does it is to show dominance over our new boy, who by the way, is 5 mo. and has NEVER humped or marked inside!:p |
