Legitimate Rescue? So I have found an adorable pup at a rescue site in NC through petfinder. They have their own website.org and i have contacted them regarding a puppy. I was given what I find to be a high "adoption fee" of 750, with 50 back once I have proof of neuter. I can see both sides of the fee, as many dogs are surrendered and need extensive medical care and a higher fee for a cute puppy is a good way to bring in money to help care for these dogs. My concern with this particular situation is that I was told these puppies are not the first surrender and that the breeder has surrendered her females through the rescue in the past, once they were too old to breed. Now the lady is going to stop breeding all together and has surrendered this litter. Does this sound legitimate to anyone? Has anyone has issues with a particular nc rescue? I realize that the fee is high, but not unreasonable for a yorkie pup and that is not what i am questioning. I just do not want to get scammed in a puppymill pretending to be a rescue. |
Do you have a link... |
I would like to see a link as well. If you are not comfortable posting you can send it to me in a PM. |
http://ncyorkierescue.org/ Like I said, I am possibly going to pick up my new baby tomorrow, and my only concern is not helping a puppy mill. I asked the lady through the rescue and she assured me not. She has 2 of the adoptable babies in her home, plus at least one other with health issues which hinder adoption. I hate to sound like I am badmouthing a true rescue. I find what these people do amazing. I also hate for the people running the rescue to be up here and it be legitimate and I turn people away because of my questions....Just curious if anyone is familiar with the organization or has any suggestions? |
Yay! I have been informed that this is legitimate and I am soo excited. I am not guaranteed the baby, but I am hopeful! If I am lucky enough to provide him his forever home, I will be sure to let you all know. Thank you to the people who quickly responded! :) |
I can't say I saw anything that really jump out at me but $700 is ridiculous for a rescue..that is the highest I have ever heard. Is this for the puppy with the deformed paws? He is old enough to be neutered... I do not see a listing for a litter of pups? I really can't comment on the $50 back if in fact it is for a puppy.. Here are past pictures of dogs they havae placed that were on petfinder..All seem young none of the old and sick which most rescues have. www.NCYorkieRescue.org, Greensboro, NC: Adopted Pets: Petfinder What questions have they asked you? That can be very telling also.. |

May I ask how old you are? Do you work? Do you rent/own your own home? |
It was me. They are legit as far as I know. This is the same rescue that was suppose to take the "7 free yorkies" several years ago. |

I am positive the YHR does not adopt out any dogs without being altered. When we had puppies several times last year they did no go until they were old enough to have the surgery. But like I said every rescue is different. |
Oh... I just never heard of a rescue doing that. Thanks for sharing! |
