Sarahpgh | 03-21-2009 04:28 PM | Finding a Yorkie is Scary Hi! I actually live near Tampa, FL (used to be in Pittsburgh X 30 yrs). I have two LH doxies that I love. I am an RN, not working, going to school for BSN. I volunteer for FL Dachshund Rescue (FLDR) and Pasco Animal Services. My friend lost her Yorkie to Pancreatic CA in December; while at the animal services, I found a little homeless Yorkie needing a forever home. I called her, she came out and adopted her. She is 5.5 lbs of cuteness. I would love to adopt a Dorkie or Yorkie like her; my babies are getting older and a little one would fit in just fine. However, when I look on the Web, I am seeing lots of ads that look like puppy mills, or "make your fortune with Yorkies", etc., that make me sick. Isn't there a legitimate "rescue" Yorkie site like FLDR? Or is it that there aren't any adult Yorkies for adoption? I don't breed dogs and don't intend to; I think that trying to make a lot of money from little babies like this is disgusting. We think that the Yorkie I found was used as a breeder (she's spayed now, you bet), and she was so scared........ How do I find people who are like me, just love dogs and get a kick out of playing with them, making them happy, loving them, etc.? I'm not going to call any of these people until you give me some advice on how to proceed. Guess I'm a "Naive Doxy/Yorkie Lover. |
