Hi Yorkie Lovers in the South,
I am Marilyn Faughner from Reading, PA. I am the founder of Save A Yorkie Rescue, Inc. and we are having our annual fundraiser in July. This year the theme is Mardi Paws and we are so excited!

I have to make the announcements and greetings. Since I have never been to a Mardi Gras event, I am clueless about what kinds of things to say.

I guess there is some french mixed in and maybe there are some traditional sayings....

Could anyone help me with a little dialogue? Some things that people down there say around Mardi Gras?

I could tell you that up here we chow down on fasnaughts near Lent and we eat a lot of pot pie all the time - we are Pennsylvania Dutch country and food is very important in this area.

If you could give me some ideas, I would appreciate it. We have decorations and beads.. we are going to have hundreds of Yorkies and their people here in Reading along with vendors, an auction, a dinner and a rescue parade. It is our largest fund raiser of the year and very important. We pay many thousands of dollars in vet bills for the homeless Yorkies who come to us... so we want to be sure people will come back next year if they have lots of fun...you can see our website at Welcome to Save A Yorkie Rescue, Inc. You should look up Mardi Gras on the internet...you will find lots of information...Mardi Gras is not just in New Orleans...it is in south louisiana. I belong to 3 krewes. I will email you more when i have time. Have fun!!

My mommy "Pris" and I "Karo" are from Baton Rouge. Mommy and Daddy "David" just got me a few weeks ago. They really do love me. I have figured out when I lick their legs they will pick me up. I can see much better high up. I am still a little girl. I am 6 months old and weigh only 2lbs. Mommy and Daddy say I have to be careful because I am so little. I would love to come and play. Let my mommy and daddy know and we will be there. I have to go "my mommy needs me to get in her lap" .... Pris, David & Karo

I know of only one "dog park" in our area, in DenhamSprings, right outside of Baton Rouge, down the street from the new Bass Pro Shop.... you could all send your hubbies to the Pro Shop and play in the park.. lol

i live in hammond, la.. and today i went to the dollar store on hwy 190 and i brought my lexi. well on the way into the store i saw this dog, small in size (almost like a puppy) sitting in the parking lot.. skin and bones. i thought, well maybe he belongs to the people parked right there... so i went inside, did some shopping.. when i was walking back to my car i saw the dog again, but those people were gone. without even thinking i put my stuff in the car and lexi with the air on, and went to see if the dog was nice.. he came right to me, the sweetest dog.. he had a collar on but with NO tags. now what is the point in that! so i put him in my car and came home. poor thing was starving.. i gave him some food, water, and a bath.
hubby is home, hes not too excited about the dog.. he told me to give him to the shelter tomorrow morning. the only problem is that ive heard ALOT of rumors about hammond animal shelter. that they euthanise animals for no reason... they even are excited about doing it and take turns.. i dont know.. id rather give him to someone where i know he will be taken care of. im stuck in the middle

Sorry I just read this! Do you have an animal rescue around there? I know the shelter will euthanise after a certain time. This breaks my heart. What kind of dog is it? Please keep us updated. Best of Luck!
