Paw prints would be cute but it doesnt matter to me either way. Im passionate about the site regardless of the background.

Well, I'll be one of the scrooges that prefers YT the way it is (or close to the way it is). :p

We already have so much wild stuff going on here with the avatars and the signatures...I think the rest of the "decor" around here needs to stay straightforward and non-distracting (ie, no "patterns" in the background, etc)

The tone-on-tone color schemes can look calming, but be harder on the eye when it actually comes to reading. Just things to think about.

My guys tell me lavender is worse than pink as far as non-man-friendly colors go. But more than that -- why do we need to change it at all? What benefit is achieved?

Busy colors and graphics make a site extremely unfriendly to folks prone to eye strain. They make concentrating extra difficult for folks who suffer from medical conditions that cause "brain fog" and those who take daily meds like I do. It may sound like a simple matter to change the colors to make everything cutesy -- but there are more considerations than how fun a site looks. While it might please your sense of interior design, it could also ruin the YT experience for others. Why not put our cheeriness in words and deeds instead of redesigning the whole site?

I love this site -- not for the "cutesy factor" but because of the helpful, insightful folks who share their experience and knowledge to improve Yorkie ownership for all of us. In fact, one reason I chose this site to frequent is that there is such a nice balance of friendliness, compassion AND seriousness for thse those wanting to learn. I agree with Mardelin's suggestion -- if we want to change something, let's do something that really has some value -- I would love an annual rescue fund raiser! I would gladly contribute to something like that!

I am not against all change -- I just think that change should not be at the risk of someone else's experience. Why not use the WT site to play "dress up" with and let this one keep its dignity? No offense meant, it is just something I feel strongly about. And as always it is JMHO.

Green or lavender would be a lovely change!!

there is a way to design to keep things simple, clean, easy to read, and still add a little something i think. that's what a designer is supposed to do, design around the clients' needs. So i think there would be a great way to take everyone's concern and make something.

i am def one of those pple b/c i am at work and on the computer all day the LAST thing i want to do is look at a crazy site that'll just give me a headache. :confused:

my thinking is take the maltesetalk.com site as an example .. if we use the current YT as a template .. keep the blue where its is but maybe add a light gray with paw prints a gray that's slightly darker but make it paler/transparent like .. so the background is a background and enphasizes the text and the blocks ... or even if you did lavender have a light lavender background but keep the blocks (the current blue parts) white with a border .. or something .. keeping things simple but elegant and clean ...

I think something along those lines and keeping in minds everyones concerns would be very do-able.

Who said it would have to be purple or an un-manly color (Im actually not a huge lavender fan myself)? I had personally suggested light yellow or light avacado green and Ive been here for 2 years and wouldnt mind seeing a slight change. It doesnt have to be busy or *cutesy* by any means. What harm can pale yellow with tiny white paw prints possibly do? Spice things up just a bit? Pale yellow or pale green are nice happy & peaceful colors as well as unisex so I think it would be a nice subtle change. Blue is overdone and everywhere. You asked what the benefit would be, I studied art and the science of colors and color plays a very important role in mood and the way we think. Making this place a pale yellow or a peaceful pale green might perk it up and perk people up, it can give a cheerful yet calming feeling. No harm done there.


And yes I do agree an fundraiser for a rescue is an excellent idea. Someone should definetly make a new thread for that in the "site suggestion" section:thumbup: .

I completely agree 100%. I think a nice pale green would really brighten the "mood." There IS a science to colors.

yea i actually heard of that green has the highest sensitivity to our eyes and brains and that increases brain function/activity .. and i already said this but i think the avocado would be a great color .. very fresh and cool like a cucumber .. hehehe .. was that to obvious and lame of a joke?? :p

A cat forum I was a member of had the option to change the forum's colors just for the member only. The member could adjust the color in the control panel. Perhaps the current blue one could continue to be an option with the addition of another coloring? Though I don't know how admin would go about doing that.

That would be an AWESOME!!!!! Come to think of it, I think I was a member of a forum that had that option as well.

I apologize I know you were specifially commenting on lavender and I agree with you on this point. I hope I didnt offend you, I actually respected your opinion and was simply stating my opinion on some of the points you brought up. You didnt just comment on lavender alone, you made it sound like you were opposed to any possible change which is why I commented with the rest of my thoughts on what you said.
I was actually agreeing that I wouldnt want cutesy or anything busy. Just saying a subtle light background color would be fun and should have no negative effects. I think maybe you took my post the wrong way, I wasnt jumping on you.

I guess I did not state my case well. I did say I am not against all change -- in fact a soothing green sounds just as good as the blue. I am not for a lot of graphics. I am on broadband so it won't slow me down, but it will detract from content for me. But the small paw print silhouette type addition wouldn't be a problem. I think I just wigged out a little after looking at that pink site and realizing I would not be able to frequent a site like that.

I don't mind the color as long as I can read the threads and see the pictures.:)

I like it the way it is.

I don't mind color changes, but I hate patterns on websites. There's a reason that the best graphic designers tend not to use them.

I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but the paw prints give me a headache. :( Just a personal preference. And hey, if something changed that made me spend LESS time at YT....I guess that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing! :D

I hope you all know that Maltesetalk.com is a sister site of YT, that's why it's the same template, just different colors.

it's owned/ran by the same admin as here.. just like 4WT..

.. i don't have any preference with changing/redecorating.. there are so many members here, it's hard to please everyone :)
