Well ...I wasn't going to post about this but wanted to ask ....

what is going on with the Products For Sale section? :eek:

With all the locked threads it looks really bad to anyone browsing that part of the site. Actually it looks like there are a bunch of bad threads and I know from reading them - they're just simple selling threads...but seeing that padlock gives a bad impression

I know we need rules but I find them totally confusing....I was locked and have no idea why. I thought this was a message board and am wondering why people cannot reply or post on threads with something for sale....

Maybe the rules can be revised a bit to make them more user friendly ???

Wow...I just went to check and you're right. I see about 1/2 dozen padlocks on the threads... :confused:

could it be that the sellers are bumping their own threads too much. in the "featured yorkie breeders' forum, we are only allowed two bumps per week. that's why when someone compliments us on our babies, we can't even respond in the thread with "Thanks". i did once and admin told me that is considered a bump so I just pm people back now. Anything we post that is not answering a direct question is a bump. Are you merchants held to the same rules, maybe? just a thought. they did say they would close our threads if we do that.

Yes, we can only bump one time ever, unless we are answering a question.

From what i understand they were having problems with people abusing the bump thing. We can only have one bump for the whole time the thread is open we can't answer comments only questions i think they have gone through and closed all the the threads that are in violation. I agree with you all i wish we were able to answer people who post comments because it's makes us seem rude to other people that read the thread but don't know we pm'd them. I have had a few threads closed not because i am bad but because they changed the rules and my threads were in violation after. It does make you feel embarresed and it does make you look bad in my opinion to others that don't know the rules. but i think there are a few people who are constantly bumping their threads to keep them up and thats why they changed it. i wish we could find a happy medium or at least if when admin closed the thread if they could just write a post saying the thread was bumped to much so people don't think your a scammer or something? I don't know?

I was told that my posts were bumps when I answered a comment; when I said an item was pending, awaiting payment (evidently we can only post "SOLD" once we receive the payment, and then when a person backed out and I had to mention the items were still for sale, that too was called a bump. That was my first time selling ANYTHING on YT and maybe I got a little excited but it seemed like trying to keep the info current was the right thing to do. Guess not. I won't make the mistake again........:( It is embarrassing, insulting, and very frustrating to have a thread locked. It was not like I just typed BUMP or anything!

Okay, starting to get my hackles up again so I will close with just one more vote for lightening up on the ability to comment in the for sale threads.

I agree...answering a question shouldnt be considered a bump...two totally differnt things...it also saves the poster from answering the same questions through PM's...

THat happened to me too! I had said thanks to people or simply commented back to what they said to me and I didn't know that would be considered a bump. It never said in the rules that you couldn't acknowledge what people said to you, so I had no idea until my thread was locked. I didn't even get any kind of warning. JMO, but locking the threads might give people a bad impression about the seller.

Thanks for the input...I guess since this is a message board I had no idea posting a message would get a thread locked....I feel embarrassed too ...I've never had a thread locked before either..but even worse is seeing a bunch of locked threads...That's why I posted this....maybe the rules need to be a little more user friendly....it's weird seeing all the padlocks and not at all like the site I've been on for so long.

I know we need rules but have to wonder what made them change so much.

Thanks for bringing this up V. Mine was locked also and yes you kinda of feel like you did something intentionally wrong. I have never intentionally bump my for sale thread. I sew enough without doing so and really don't want to sew everyday!:eek:
Maybe a warning first through a pm ,that way you could see what you are doing wrong first and be given a chance to correct it.
I have seen other for sale threads with comments after comments being address and not locked so it is alittle confusing to me.:confused:

Wow Villette, I just checked and I remember seeing this before and decided to read through the thread to see if there was a problem like a argument or something but found nothing. Now I understand a little more but it's still confusing.I did not know that I could not reply to a comment. I have replied several times but mainly to post what has been sold.

So where do we read the rules. I love this site, but there so many "hidden" rules that I am starting to get a little frustrated. So what is bumping? Is this just on threads that we start ourselves? I don't get it.

Here are the Products For Sale Post Rules:

Posting for sale items in non For Sale forums is strictly prohibited.

Posting non-Yorkie related items in the Yorkie Products For Sale or Wanted forum is strictly prohibited

1. YorkieTalk members may post one Product For Sale or Product Wanted thread per week. Donating members (those who have donated $25 or more) can post two Product For Sale threads per week. Members with commercial online stores may not post any For Sale threads unless they have donated $25 or more.

2. If you are selling any items, you are allowed ONE bump of your thread. When you bump it is up to you. You may answer any questions people have of your product, but any post not related to a question will be considered a bump. Responding to comments on your thread is considered a bump. You may privately message (PM) those members that comment on your thread.

If you have multiple fabrics or items or attachments to post, your replies to your thread must be made within ONE HOUR of your initial posting otherwise it will be considered a bump.

If you item does not sell, you may post a new thread for it the following week.

3. Products for sale MUST ONLY be posted in the Products For Sale forum. We only allow Yorkie Products For Sale. Personal items (such as computers or cell phones) are only allowed in the Garage Sale forum (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=52).

4. You must include prices of the item(s) you are selling.

5. Links to eBay auctions are not allowed in your For Sale post. We also do not allow selling of Amway, Mary Kay, or any other direct marketing products. Links to your eBay store are allowed if you are a Donating Member.

6. You may NOT review any products that you or your storefront is selling in the Yorkie Products & Review forum, as there may be a conflict of interest.

7. If you do not follow these rules, your threads and posts may be deleted and you may be suspended. Other abuses of the products for sale forum may also lead to suspension or banning.

8. You may only post items you are selling yourself in this forum.

9. No referral links are allowed.

10. If you are looking for a Yorkie-related item and you post a thread, you may bump your thread once PER WEEK.

Bumping means posting in a thread and it bumps the thread up to the top. Bumping is not a bad thing. The only time it's bad is when you are selling something you can only bump your thread once hope this clears things up

Eekkkk....me too. I was sooo embarassed and no one can even see me. I did not know about the not commenting to anything other than a question.

yep, happened to me the first day. But I wrote and asked admin if it was a bump and they said yes. So noww I am worried when people comment on how pretty my puppies are and I keep silent, that they will think I am rude. i try to pm people with thanks but can't always do it for some reason or another.

I agree. This does make us look rude. I was raised to say thank you and it's Bred into me lol - I can see not replying to every single comment - we don't need to even though I see it happen - but to get locked for that seems harsh to me.:(

hi all, and it would make you look rude to not comment, i make sure i pm people with a thank you to their comments, if they ask a question, then i can answer in the thread, if its only a comment, i cant...i was thinking it would make me look rude to not answer in the thread and hope no one minds a pm to say thank you lol but..people just reading and not commenting in the thread will think im rude . ( or anyone else who is selling anything) but i can see admins point about the bumps too.

I don't know V, things have changes so much..........maybe YT is getting too large to handle? :confused:

I have to admit that I agree with that (admin's point). A lot of people here need information, and if we were all responding and bumping a lot, the "new posts" would be flooded with a lot of for sale posts, and the board might get the feel of a very commercial place. That might turn off a lot of people.

Maybe we should just post a blurb on our first messages about not being able to respond publicly to comments unless a question is asked, per forum rules. That way, it would be there in the post for people not to get offended.

Just wanted to add: I do think that a warning PM from Admin for first time "offenders" :) would soften the blow. :)

I kind of thought the same thing.. Why would people complain about others posting on their own threads ?? It's hard to NOT post when this is a message board...that's what we do lol - :)

The For Sale post rules have been in place for quite some time. Locking threads is the only fair solution for threads with multiple bumps, as there have been many people that continuously bump up their threads in the For Sale section, which is unfair to those sellers that do follow the rules. Please remember there are those that sell Yorkie products for a living as well as just casual sellers here on YorkieTalk.

Members can repost the thread the following week. Continued abuse of the For Sale rules may result in a suspension of posting privileges in the For Sale forums. We also require all For Sale-related threads to go in the For Sale forums.

Sellers can PM fellow members if they want to respond to a comment.
