There was a thread started in the general section by pepe mint. And I think it may be a good idea to raise money for the sight. I'm not sure if I posted the link correctly but there it is below.

Maybe this could be something to help rasie money for the sight. The fee could be cheaper then the one to join the gift exchange to encourage more people. I don't think the secret pup pal would take away from the gift exchange considering that those of us who are serious about this sight love to participate. For those who have multiple dogs this may also help them with participating in a simple gift exchange. So this is just an idea for admin tell us what you think.

i'll say it again.. i think this is a great idea!!! like a pen pal with some extras :) and i think the donation is a GREAT idea... and i also agree that it will not take away from the GE because a) the donation can be a small amount and b) it won' tbe on a nearly as large scale as the GE>. maybe a letter once a month or a birthday gift... things that the GE doens't cover.. come on admin!! it's great right :) :) :)

Well hopefully we aren't the only 2 who think so. (as far as donation requirement and own section) Maybe admins tired tonight or better yet watching the grammy's hopefully they'll respond soon. :(

i think admin must be a busy guy lately... i pmed him a few days ago and he got back to me tonight.. so hopefully he'll see this soon :) i think it is a great idea to raise money... which is always needed.. even if we have matched what we need (have we??) keeping my fingers crossed!

Well hopefully admin will check it out soon. Pepe Mint had a great idea and I think it could work. It's all up to admin now. Just let us know if it's doable and the best way to go about it and how much you need. I'd be happy to help out.

Raising money for this site sounds great and all but I don't think you should have to pay. I feel maybe some who want to do the GE can't due to the money part, and this way they could join in if they choose too and not have to pay.

I think this is such a great idea! Am I the only one who get overly excited to receive an actual CARD in the mail??? :email: I don't mind if there's a fee involved, but I do understand that paying might prohibit some from participating. Either way, count us in! :)

Hold your Horses (errr I mean yorkies I guess)! I was thinking we could provide info like birthdate/favorites/etc.

I will have everyone sign up online but PM me their addresses. Then randomly pair people together :) I need to think about it more unless pepemint has already started it??????

ya there is another thread about this.. not sure where it is.. OH it's call "wanna have some fun" about 10 people have already pm'd her with their info.. things we want our buddies to know.. our b day.. our yorkies b day.. and our addresses... she is starting a database and when she has more people will pair each of us up.. we will have this buddy for a year.. then we will get a new one.. we send letters and stuff.. and if you want a gift on the b day.. you should pm her.. she has a lot of info! but sign up hallie and simon!

I understand you completely. If there was a fee it would be minimal or admin can just leave it as a free will donation:) no mandatory amount. If we don't do donations some rule would have to be in place such as number of posts (which I'm not sure is such a great idea) with something like this we want to make sure people are committed. The money was a suggestion to help YT out. If you have any other suggestions let us know:p

it's a tough one. you want every to be able to participate.. but i know that no one wants a buddy that never writes... especially if you are like me.. very excited about this.. and just itching to get started.. anyone have any other ideas?

ok, I am not sure what has happened, somehow I missed this thread. But I only wanted to start this in hopes to help other yt'ers get to know each other. If there is a gift exchange program that is raising money for YT, then I really think we should just let this be the puppy pal program I had originally inteded, because if we start requiring people to donate in order to be a part of it, it will keep people from doing it. and I simply want us to have pals and get to know each other.

I am working with hubby to create a custom database on my computer that will keep track of everything, everyones information, who their puppy pal is, and wether or not they are actually participating. I don't mind heading it up, which is why I started the thread. If we have too many of these going on, people will get really confused.

I will PM everyone that has sent me their information and let them know that I am not requiring a donation, that they can donate if they would like to, but it is not required. And I will be letting everyone know who their puppy pal is this weekend. I should have all of the info in the database by tomorrow evening. (friday)

there have been several people pm me because this thread has confused them and they do not know if they are now signed up for 2 different puppy pal programs. I hope this helps clear it up???

I completely understand the meaning behind the donations...to help ensure that everyone is participating. but I don't mind taking on the role of making sure that everyone is. and if you do not receive a package one month...at least a card in the mail, then I would want to know about it so I can assign a new pal. I will work out a system that will keep up with this. as far as rules..there has to be some guidelines in place. I think once a month is very fair. I think that it would give someone a sense of how often and I dont think that once a month is too often.

Even if people donate $5 to YT, they can still fall off the face of the earth. I "donate" $35 a month to a local gym and haven't been in 3 months :) so I really don't think requiring a donation will ensure that someone will stick around and participate. there is no fail proof plan, but I will keep in touch with everyone involved.

While we think this may be a great idea, we at YorkieTalk do not feel comfortable with someone outside of the YorkieTalk team handling anything that may involve money or gifts. We have experienced problems with non YorkieTalk Staff members handling YT events in the past, and we will not let it happen again.

For any events that are related to YorkieTalk or its members, we can not just allow anyone to start activities or events on our site that may damage our reputation or cause problems for our members. We are not going to allow an activity that may involve a YorkieTalk member not getting something while they do send something.

Since this idea was never approved by YorkieTalk directly, we are unable to let this thread continue. We may look into this idea in the future if there is enough interest.
