Searching for information on Yorkietalk? 4 Attachment(s) There are a few tools that may make this much easier. Tags, the Search function & the Google Search on the bottom of every page are just some of the methods we all have available for our use. Tags can be a great tool in a Forum like Yorkietalk. I’ve noticed there's not a lot of info on when or how a tag can be used and people shouldn't worry about getting in trouble with tags when used appropriately. If you see a thread that would benefit someone else I strongly encourage the use of them. Tags aren’t meant to be used as insults but rather, to help someone else that may come along looking for answers to questions contained in certain threads. Admin said on 1/27/11: “Tags are used as another way for members to search threads or to search YorkieTalk. They can be useful for certain things, such as illness names or a particular Yorkie pedigree. Google may also put more weight into tags when they index our community. They are not required, but can be useful. It is a tool for the community to use as they see fit. Members can also search by tags as well, either by clicking on Search, then Search Tags, or this link: YorkieTalk.comForums - Yorkshire Terrier Community - Tags. We can see which member makes which tags. If they are inappropriate or name calling or belittling, action will be taken by a moderator or admin. We have suspended members in the past for using tags inappropriately.” There are a few ways to search for tags including the link Admin provided above (which shows the top Tag Searches in a Tag Cloud). You can also Tag Search through the regular way by clicking on Search & following to Tag Search. Attachment 389819 The Search function can be a bit tricky. If you’re looking for particular threads or posts written by a user you would open Advanced Search, type the username into the Search by User Name window & select either Find Posts by User or (by clicking the small down arrow on the right side of the drop down) Find Threads by User. You can select certain Forums or search them all. Additionally, a search can be done in any Forum for keywords using the Search this Forum drop down menu found under the page count of each Forum. Attachment 389820 Keyword Search is also found in the Advanced Search and is another fantastic tool if you’d like to look for threads containing specific words. Keep in mind, the normal Search functions only allow you to search back so far in Yorkietalk’s archives. Again, you can select certain Forums or search them all. Keywords can be tricky so be sure to try a few different ones. Attachment 389821 Some threads that have been archived can be found using the Google Search at the bottom of each page. To search Yorkietalk within Google, simply change the button to Yorkietalk search by clicking next to that parameter. Type in what you’re looking for & any threads containing your search term will be found. Attachment 389822 |
1 Attachment(s) Miscellaneous info & data stored on YT: You can see all of the different Forums by going to the top of any page & clicking on Forums (found under Yoda theYorkie’s head ) Here, you’ll find not only a list of all the forums on YT but also some very useful information if you scroll to the lower part of the page. Things like Who’s on YT now, Who’s in YT chat, YT Detailed Statistics & Birthdays for the day. At the very bottom you’ll see a link to the YT archive where all the threads are stored. I see what your talking about, did you resize all these pictures? They are too small to show up. Here's one of the pictures. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/att...alk-image5.jpg. That's way too small. It has to be at least an inch to show up, but it really needs to be at least 6 inches to read. Just so it's under 200 kb, and you can get a pretty big picture for under 200 kb, especially if you're not using lots of bright colors. |

Thank you to those who helped me figure out what I was doing wrong posting images inside this thread. Michelle, Ann & Nancy I really appreciate your help! :) |
This is a very helpful thread, I think maybe you might want it in the "How to forum." YorkieTalk How-To Guides - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community. JMuedog http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/member.php?u=35918 can edit out my comments and move it there. |

Someone brought up a good point. I completely left out how to tag a thread! LOL...oops :) Adding tags: Each person is allowed two tags per thread as Admin told us. To add a tag to threads, scroll to the end of the page & you'll see "edit tags" on the right side. Click on that & a box will open where you can add or modify tags. On the left side of the page you'll see the tags already used for that thread. |
And here's a little more discussion about tagging: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/off...-properly.html |
