I love the smileys & I have never considered anyone using them sarcastically, except in the obvious sarcastic moments...:scratchhe I know a lot of this is in jest...I hope...:eek::exclaim:

Oh no! I'm a smilie person. But I promise Lynzy I never post them with the meanings you are talking about. Hmmmmm guess I should be more careful in the future using them! On the IPhone Lisa taught me a good one haha. I now use it all the time. It really does have a double meaning. Know what I'm talking about Lisa??!!

I have noticed some of them being put in sarcastic posts, but never knew that they had double meanings...
I like using smileys in fun posts, but when it's serious I avoid them.

Guess I'm just not into all that kinda stuff cause I really didn't know there were other meanings. Just thought it depended on the text they were attached to.

I know that people can use smilies sarcastically but in place of those there would just be sarcastic words.

Sad though. I never did find a double-meaning to a smiley with shades on. :( Went to my various sites that I use to try to learn some of the Twitter-verse lingo but they didn't seem to have anything special attached to it so I'll just accept it as an emphasis to something that was just said being considered cool or a way of saying "chill out" or "we kewl" I guess.

Ok, I am pretty clueless ......are there really other meanings to these symbols? :confused: I use them all the time without intending to "piss" someone off!

Omg. you are too funny! They are just smilie faces and nothing more. Its how each individual person interoperates them that can be an issue. But your interoperation may not be how the poster intended it. :p :)

I can remember a thread where several people gave this person a really really hard time because of the use of her smiles. It was really unnecessary. Which proves my point. She added smilies and they saw RED. and totally misinterpreted her meaning.

I like my smilies and yes I am on of those people who will post them in a sarcastic and sort of smart a** manner. I have no shame and will not make any excuses for it. But I also use them if I think it will make someone laugh or even feel better.

I do kind of like some of your interpretation of them and will keep those in mind next time I want to let someone know that I have the mods wrapped around my little finger or want to piss someone off !!

Think of it this way...whenever people *do* use a smiley in a sarcastic / mean / immature / confrontational / triggering way -- it really makes them look like a total a-hole, in my opinion. So, if that's how they want to appear, who are we to argue with their opinion of themselves?

There is funny well-meaning sarcasm, and then there is mean NASTY sarcasm. And in this case, I'm talking about The Nasty we see here on occasion.

Just for the record, I always mean my smileys with their literal meaning, not their opposite/sarcastic meaning.

Finally someone who will admit what I alluded to, thank you Dawn...at least you admit it...there are also times when people use them to taunt and hurt and belittle (not accusing you Dawn)...I do hate those ones...why can't these people say what they really mean in written word??? and why does anything go so deep on a personal level? Really? This is your community, you need to stick together...thick and thin...or like those in the past, people will just leave.

I'd like to believe that we are all compassionate enough to accept each other with our own differences and personalities- after all, those of us on here know each other well enough to know when something is bothersome...why not rally around that person instead? I don't expect newbies to understand all the ins and outs of each of us...but maybe I expect more from the regulars and time and time again I see the swords being swung...

My real intention here was a jab at Sugarmamma, who loves to torture me with them smileys...the smileys don't bother me...like ya all think they do, its the words they sometimes replace that bother me....suppose a smiley is better than the words sometimes...I don't know...but I was just goofing...no secret I don't like em...never have never will I do love a smiley, a real smiley...not a smartass grin in sunglasses....

Double meaning....yes, some of them do....the ones I listed? I made those up in jest....maybe;):cool:
