I have noticed that the for sale form doesn't ask specifically for the full registered name of the dam and sire. This information would be not only usefull but IMO should be required if you are selling purebred yorkies.

I would suggest that the form be amended as follows:

Full Registered Name of Dam: Registry is?
Full Registered Name of Sire: Registry is?

Litter is Registered with?

Either approved shortforms for the Registry or the Registry is typed out in full

FCI UKC AKC CKC NAKC etc.

are some of the shortforms ppl might use.

I also think there should be more questons asked and answered - complete info and also comments should be allowed since there are so many here with great knowledge of what constitutes a good breeder vs bad - many times people LEARN from what people on this site share.

Some of the ads are so vague that it really doesn't help the seller or consumer and it's not like we're talking chump change, Yorkies and certain breeds are known for health issues and this should always be discussed to protect the buyers.

The seller should be an open book when promoting their puppies.

ps there's plenty of sites out there where people can take their chances - which is why we are seeing so many sick litttle pupies.

heartbreaking for the new owner and the poor puppies suffer in the end.

I'm not sure if everyone realized we added this to the rules in Yorkies for Sale:

In the interest of education and awareness, we will allow questions and comments to the Seller. Please keep in mind these are For Sale threads, not topical threads, even though some topical posts will be allowed. The subjective nature of these threads are monitored by the Admin/Moderator team.

So, this does mean that questions can be asked. Precious creatures are being sold here, so it is important to allow some discussion - if it is needed :). We still ask that people be civil and calm and factual, but yes, *some* discussion is allowed.

That may seem subjective, but that's okay...it's well worth it. :):):)

Thank you Ann - I noticed more questions and responses had been allowed in For Sale threads and appreciate that. I even commented this to someone the other day, after being away from YT for awhile, that it seemed we were allowed to question sellers more than in the past.:thumbup:

Gemy - it would be great if more did list the full registered names of dams and sires. But, I think in many cases it wouldn't really matter who they are:(

great post as usual. I agree - some questions must be monitored but I still like that you allow them TO be asked....there's been quite a few questionable sales that the people in the know seem to know to ask.

But I also agree - rudeness and attacks should be avoided - unless the seller is being obviously deceitful then that's a whole different game. You mods etc can't be expected to know when a breeder isn't coming clean but there are some that know just what they speak of - and that's how we learn.

I agree, but the point is many ads imply a champion dog is involved, and I think a place where the actual names of the dam and sire are listed is important. Even if there are no champions involved, their full registered names are important. This also allows buyers to see if the dogs are truly registered with breeding rights. The classified ad forum is a great resource for breeders; it could become a great resource for pet buyers as well. In the past, breeders have been asked if the new litter is from the same dogs as a previous litter, and breeders have been reluctant to give out this information. You have to wonder why, a breeder would be reluctant to give out this information.

How do things like this get amended? Full vote of donating members? Board vote?

Gemy...I hope it didn't seem like I was ignoring you. But, admin (our beneficent dictator :p) has the final say on your question. Whereas, I could address some of what V was asking about.

Admin views this section, so I'm sure this will be addressed. It seems that what you're requesting would be very easy and effective.

I don't use the full registered name on purpose since it's difficult enough to stop people that intend to breed and lie to get a puppy from registering them CKC. Although it doesn't stop it completely since they can send pictures and get a friend to verify the puppy looks like a yorkie, it's much easier if you have the registered name of the sire and dam. I will share some info of the litters but until they are neutered or spayed I won't give them a full name. If someone wants to use Champion sired in their ad it's already part of the rules that they must say the name. I used to tell people in ads that my pups are champion sired and had all kinds of nut cases coming out of the wood work. And when I had money I would get them spayed before leaving but now I don't have money for that. I decided people that just wanted a pet didn't care that my puppies are champion sired and I don't advertise it. It seems if you want to know that detail about puppies pedigrees, contact the person advertising and maybe they will share that information. Sorry if this sounds terse but I would resent being forced to do something that may be detrimental to the future of puppies I produce.

Most breeders only charge for a spay and toothcleaning for an ex-breeding dog, you got more than that, and didn't have to pay for any vet care. Sure you got some flack, but you made out pretty good, wouldn't you say? Do you think you could have gotten that much any place else? I don't think so.

I came to YT because we love Yorkies, we are passionate.
I came here to find one of my babies the best home possible. SUre Ill take some grief.
Flack is good. Want to give me some more? Keep me on my toes?

I support YT. You all hurt my feelings sometimes but thats okay.

I;m trying to understand your concern. First when you mention CKC do you mean the national registry in Canada? The Canadian Kennel Club... or do you mean the Continential Kennel club?

If it is the Continental KC they would register a dog/bitch on the basis of a pic alone?

If so I understand your concern. How-ever purchasers should be able to look up on an official registry the dam/sire of any puppy they plan on purchasing.

How would you suggest a way that both the potential purchaser can be served and you as the breeder be served?

For example is there a way you can withhold full registration of your pups until they are neutered? And or a co- ownership agreement?

The concern here is the Continental KC. One of my boys is dual registered Canadian Kennel Club and AKC so I am as respectful of the Canadian KC as the AKC but this is the confusion that the Continental KC counts on to the unsuspecting public. If you give papers with the registered name on there and mark LIMITED it won't make any difference to those breeding Continental KC. Believe it or not all they require are pictures of the dog and one other persons written statement that the dog looks like the breed they are trying to register it to be. More than the hoax that I think they pull on the purchaser are the reasons selling limited are done. Puppy too small to breed, genetic history of producing something unacceptable, puppy is not a good example of the breed, and many more reasons. But who knows what kind of environment they are being kept in. If they'd lie about wanting a pet puppy they will lie about anything. I've gotten very cynical about peoples motives.
I really don't produce that many litters a year and the people that work with me are satisfied because I work very hard to have healthy, happy, well adjusted puppies. There are very few puppies that have ever left my home that were not fixed before hand and when they go to pet homes, the purchaser sends a small dep. that I use to get the spay/neuter done and they get a puppy that they don't have to worry about the surgery. If someone doesn't like me, my puppies, my getting the puppy fixed before leaving they probably won't buy from me. If I was selling a show puppy or a breeding puppy, those arrangement wouldn't be made on YT but I can guarantee that I'd tell them the name of the sire and dam so they could look into it before purchasing. I don't sell many open reg or show potential puppies so again I wouldn't put that info in a YT ad.

Thank you for your suggestion. We periodically do review the For Sale forum rules and we will keep it in mind the next time we revise the rules. We do suggest members do their own research when it comes to finding a breeder and verifying any claims a breeder may make, especially if that is important to them.

Currently the rules do state:

If you list a Yorkie having a Champion dam or sire, you must list the dam and sire's name as well as the registration (AKC, UKC, etc) of the Champion.
